Cute chicks! (aren't they all???)
Almost all. ;) :lau Hey!!!!!! What's not cute about this? and this? even if now and then they end up like this? LOL anyone want a SG roo????
Is he related to Erlene? Don't you have an Erlene?
My handsome FBCM roo went after me again today. I don't know why ME all the time. Geez. I am 5 7 so not tiny or anything. Because of this issue- it makes me nervous when my 4 yo runs around outside. He has never gone after her but who knows if he might. Nothing to stop him if he willing to go after me. Once caught he is gentle as can be and is wonderful to the ladies. He's been our pet so we cannot eat him. I've already rehomed 2 pet drakes this past week. Now I have to rehome our gorgeous Marans roo. WAHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I dislike this part of bird rearing. I just needed to whine a minute. My goodness this thread is crazy fast. Like 10 pages since I was on yesterday. I read someone has a sick chicken? :( Hope they respond well to the meds!
A lot of Roos work through aggressive teenage years. Ours picked me, then my husband but never looked twice at anyone else. And I have a big family, lots of little grandkids and family that bring visitors to show our farm and he's never went after anyone but me and my husband. The best tactic I've found is picking him up. When he started dancing I would slowly move in and grab him and carry him around. He hasn't asked me to dance since....but you have to be quick! Hope you can work through it with him.
And I won't bore you with a lot of personal stuff but my husband has had some heart issues lately and earlier this week he was in the hospital with it. So I've been really preoccupied physically and mentally. The weekend was just busy and then this all happened. I will try to keep up now though. Everything seems to be ok for now.

You must have been terrified! Glad he's stabilized. Sending prayers he stays that way.

A big "Thank you" to Ron for his recommendation of Kings feed. The coop is sooooo much easier to clean out and the patio can be swept of with ease. No more loose stools!

How the heck does it work?

They have designed the feed to be both easily digestible and have added probiotics to the feed.

It is amazing to see the big dark manure. Dry too.

I noticed one of my hens was lightly limping today. She is eating like a champ and otherwise acting normal, just favoring one leg. When she stands in one place she will pull her foot up. I manipulated her legs but I'm not sure what to feel for, and there didn't seem to be any obvious swelling. After reading other thread posts, I will check her foot tomorrow for dark spots (bumblefoot?). I'm hoping its just a simple sprain. Any suggestions for other things to consider here?
I had a hen sprain something last year. She had a bad limp but no swelling or bumblefoot. I separated her from the flock for a few days but she had no other symptoms and did not get worse. She liked the country club life but missed her friends so back out she went. She slowly got better but she still had a slight limp for at least 6 months. This year, I have a silly little lavender Ameraucana that has twice started limping with no other symptoms and has recovered within a couple weeks. I think that she is just spraining her leg somehow. I have 2 Lav AM and they are always darting in the middle of the big girls to grab whatever they have. Hazard of the job, I guess! I did give my girl blueberries when she was limping. I've read that they are a natural pain killer. She liked the special treatment! You might give her some Nutri-Drench or vitamins to help her heal if it is a sprain.

I've read that one, among so many others! (My poor brain!

) Potassium permanganate is nasty stuff; I can't imagine putting it in their water (I'm a big chicken!). Feeding Epsom salt? Maybe. I couldn't find the original source for either of these, just the same bit that was printed in Mother Earth News retold in several places (or outright plagiarized!). I need a bit more info to feel comfortable, otherwise seems like I'm experimenting. May have to try it if nothing else works!
I wonder if pumpkin would help with diarrhea? It helps with cats and dogs but I don't know about birds. I do know that mine love it!
