I have a 17 week old roo that has yet to crow, but was just singing the egg laying song. Has every trait of a roo, saddle feathers and all. Is this normal?

They will sing the egg song along with the girls!

What breed? Do you have a picture.

:pop

I do, it's my FCBM roo. I have yet to let him go. :)

Not the best photo, but you can clearly see he is a boy.

Sorry it's so blurry, he was not cooperating!

This is a FBCM Roo about the same age. My Oldest is holding him.

I really do not know about yours.

Edited to add: I would wait for a crow before rehoming.

OMG, your daughter is beautiful! If that is the rooster you later gave to Chiqita, it is my roo's father. The comb is MUCH bigger than mine. I have never seen a hen with hackle and saddle feathers though. This one has been late to mature, late to get his copper and boy feathers, and obviously his comb. Now he is singing the egg song. Oh my, what torture!

( that is actually his dad even)

Are driving home from elk grove where organic feed guy got more stock. At 14 a bag its worth a drive once a month. But its faaar!

I bet plank was his mother. Her brother was 6 myths old before he crowed I thought he was going to lay. He was quiet too... went to live with someone who wanted a cladstine roo.

That probably is a little roo just slow growing.

Yes, that daughter was chased by way too many boys in High School.

I know its called the "Egg Song" here on BYC, but my understanding of chicken talk is its the "I am upset" song. Some hens get upset when they lay an egg, some get upset when they get kicked out of the nesting box by the next hen. The roosters sing it when they get upset about something too. It announces any upset in the coop. If you hear it from a lot of birds - you better check the coop - there could be a predator (or it could be a cat..)

If you really want to mess with KFC - start the "I'm upset song"
