None of them look like the Cockerel at 22 weeks.
All the CL X CP are girls!!! You hit the jackpot!!!! Let me know if you need any boys. I have 4 newly hatched roo (1 week old)

They are very rare chickens. I did find this:

The Penedesenca is a breed of chicken originating in the Spanish province of Catalonia, in the area around Vilafranca del Penedès, which is the main town in the region known as "Penedès". It was developed in the first half of the 20th century from native barnyard chickens, and today is noted for producing copious amounts of very dark brown eggs, said to be among the darkest of any breed of chicken.
The earliest variety was the Black Penedesenca, which became standardized in 1946, when it was better known as the Vilafranca chicken. Today, Black, Crele, Partridge, and Wheaten colors exist (the Crele variety shows
sexual differentiation at hatching, the males being light ash-grey and the females nut-brown in color). However, no variety has been accepted in to poultry standards. All members of the breed possess red earlobes with a white center, red wattles, and an unusual red comb. Called the king's comb or carnation comb, it is similar to a common single comb but has several lobes at the rear. The breed is rare among poultry fanciers in North America, but is a common breed in Central and South America.

The Crele are Barred but it is a single Gene that shows up in the Roos. The pullets do not have the barring. Barring and the way it colors the chicken is why they are auto sexing at hatch.

They do very well in the heat.

I hatched some Crele Penes a couple of weeks ago--They are very cute--I might breed a couple of the CCL X CPs back to him. That might make the egg Darker? I guess it depends on the darkness of the brown they already have.
Thanks Ron and I like the looks of yours in their gawky dinosaur stage :)
They really do not look to bad as ugly Juvies. I like the crests on two of them, especially the black one.

These are Crested Cream Legbar crossed with Crele Pene. As chicks they looked like:

The Crele Penes I hatched a couple of weeks ago look like this:

The silverfish tan one is the roo. The others are pullets.

I have way too many now.

Why does it take me THREE days to catch up on this thread whenever I miss ONE day? Finally caught up, but I won't be on tomorrow, so it will all start again.

Question for those who have let broodies raise chicks...How long will mama take care of them? Chicks are almost 5 weeks old, and mama is starting to spend more time away from them, but the chicks act like they need her. She does come back. Also, she has started roosting at night. 1 chick can get up there, but the other 2 can't get up all the way. I feel like they don't have the feathers to be out all night, yet. If I put the chicks back in the brooder, mama hops down and joins them. Thoughts?
I've only had 2 that I let set and raise, others here will have more knowledge.

My OEGb sat on infertile e:ggs and I gave her 3 LF chicks. She did fine until they got bigger than her at a month and a half. Then they were squabaling and she was keeping her distance and I moved the chicks into a grow out pen.

I let a partridge rock hatch eggs and she raised them fine until the boys hormones kicked in. He darn near scalped her, she healed and is now back with the layer flock she came from. The babies were about 4 1/2 months when separated.

I've never left babies with my flocks-to chicken!

I've been thinking a lot about our chick that died and decided to go back and get a hatch mate or two if the feed store still had them. They did! These two seem very lively and healthy. Any guess on what kind of bantam they are?

We also have four other bantams we picked up at TSC Friday. One is a frizzle and I'm not 100% on the others.

Lefty:

Friar (Black Japanese Bantam?):

Tuck (he has a muff and pea comb (I think) so I was thinking something in the d'Uccle family? He looked like a Quail Antwerp Belgian Bantam from McMurray) :

Nugget, the alleged Bantam:

Okay, half of these have been answered, but since I was catching up and hitting the "Multi" button............

If bringing kids or grandkids be prepared to add new breeds to the flock. They always want what you don't have.
I think I just described everyone on this thread. I'm in trouble with anything partridge.

For me, I have to avoid crele chickens. You put that color on anything and I'm in love. Oh, and blue..............um..............look, it's a chicken!

I would show them at the RB show but they have been pecked on the comb....

You should enter. A peck on a comb won't affect them in the least. I've shown boys that look like they've been through a war (they had, they were living in a bachelor pen). It would be great to have a chance for everyone to meet up.

How do you pronounce "Penedesenca?"

Pen - A - Da - Sink - A
How about "Crele" and is it a color or a feather pattern?

K - Real,........... but all one sylable .............................like the fishing tackle, a fishing creel.

Deb - Nice Marans eggs!

Sorry i didnt realize the pic is not that good. They have something in the corner of there eye. Just on one side. Then it turns into infection and they die. Turns into a big ball of puss.
The next time you have one die, take it down to UC Davis. They will perform a necropsy (post mortem exam) and tell you what the problem was. This is a free service for CA residents with less than 1,000 birds. Some poultry diseases are carrier diseases, meaning they will carry and infect other birds for the rest of their life. They can also have more than 1 disease at the same time.

Most of my broodies (and I had 8 of them last year) will raise them a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum (so far) of about 10 weeks. Some start laying again before they fully wean the babies.

It sounds like your hen is starting to wean them. She will start chasing them away during the day, but still let them snuggle with her at night. I would just let the hen wean them naturally, but that's me. I like to have the hen raise them naturally.

Deerling,
How many toes on Friar and Nugget. Hard to tell from the pictures
Tuck has the right colors for anything "quail", d'uccles are feather legged, d'anver are clean legged - both are adorable.

Friar and Nugget both have four toes. Tuck definitely doesn't have feathers on his leg, thanks for the info
