California - Northern

I'm zoned agricultural - so I can have up to 100 chickens on my property. My DH would have a coronary if I had that many, but I'm able to have them. Besides, with a couple of neighbors with dogs that bark CONSTANTLY (meaning all day long non stop - and no I'm not kidding), they'd better not complain about my roosters. Newsflash people, when your dog barks so much that it is hoarse, it's a problem.

And I'm on 5 acres, so it's not like they are close.
`lol there is no limit here just can not sell eggs or chickens on my property.

Are you living next door and I don't know it? 7 dogs locked on a porch that's 12' x 12' with nothing to do but bark and breed mini Ausies. If they do get out they stalk DD when coming home from school. They cornered me once while doing yard work outside the fence. They are just on the other side of the road but we are zoned for 2.5 acres or more.

Psshhh. Auburn. Just make a stealth coop

I go there for the Home Depot and the Best Buy. Grass Valley is too stodgy for them apparently.

*sigh* Since I am looking for a place to buy (a cheap place to buy) my options are somewhat limited, but I didn't want to have to go stealth again!!! Thank goodness GV is too far from my work for me to really consider it!
Lol, go to the doctor and get a note prescribed for "companion pets'.... you know like how people in apartments get so they can bring their cat or dog!

Had a friend that did that with her dog. It was maybe a 5 pound dog and she lived in a condo and it really was a therapy pet for her after my dad died... long story. Anyway you always have crotchety neighbors that want to rain on your parade. SOooooo she is a nurse and has lots of doctor friends so it was really easy for her to get a note. It worked too! Not much they could do about it with her CC&R's either! HA! Take THAT you mean neighbors. The dog doesn't bark either. Not even a nuisance animal.
I don't know about Lincoln, but I'm raising illegal chickens in Citrus Heights. I have 12 hens, 9 layer chicks (at least 4 are going to my dad when they are old enough), and 22 Cornish cross chicks (who are only going to be with us for 3-5 more weeks). The rule in Citrus Heights is no small livestock (under 60 pound, chickens included) unless your property is a total of 10,000+ square feet and even then it's up to 10 chickens. You have to have 20,000+ to have a rooster. My property is 90 Square feet short =(.
Well yeah, when I was in Fairfield, I had 12 and was allowed 3, but they do make some noise and some neighbors are just bitter about life and want to rain on your parade! So, if I could tell them to buzz off because it is legal then it would make me happy and I could stress less.

I love it! Chicken math has me in it's grip too....
Ohhh I know me..... that is why since I had to get rid of my last chickens due to a move, all I have been thinking about is getting them back, plus some.

EEeeee heeeee I don't have a DH anymore so I don't have to worry about giving anyone health problems.

BUT you have the option!!! Options!!! It is all about options!!! Not restrictions!
I used to live in the city of Alameda. The next door neighbor's dogs barking at us while we were INSIDE our own home is what prompted us to buy our first home... without dogs next door!
Yeah that would make me want to move too.
My property is within the correct zone to keep chickens but is less than an acre. This is supposed to make it illegal for me, but I .... Well, I get to keep them. The attorney selected by the County of El Dorado who served as the judge at my Administrative Hearing rendered the decision in my favor.

Neener, neener.

With that being said, and after a neighborhood meeting which winnowed valid objections down to simple noise from the roosters, I have agreed to keep no more than two crowing roosters.

Yeah, that is just so stressful. I would hate to have to go through that. I am trying to simplify life, and courts and arguments and all that stress me out. I am rather nonconfrontational. Lol Neener Neener..... I haven't heard that in a while!

How's everybody?! Well I hope :) Question: are Corturnix quail better/easier than Button?
Well I am really really new to quail, but I guess why do you want quail is a good place to start. I hear the button quail eggs are so small they are not really usable, or they are usable but most don't bother. I hear they are really cute though.

I am trying to hatch my free Coturnix quail eggs as we speak, but only because they came free with my incubator. I probably would have gotten Jumbo's if I was going to pay for them. A little bigger eggs. I am not going to eat my quail, but others say they are really tasty.

Chiquita seems to have a lot of quail experience and she has answered several of my hatching questions.
