Have a great Hatch!

Goose eggs in the incubator! Ahhh! I add duck eggs on Saturday. Should I candle at 7 or 10 days? All eggs are white- although the goose egg shells are hecka thick. I had to guess on the air cell end on 2 of them. :|

I wouldn't worry about it now. Just leave them closed up tight. The carton works out well because they pop the top off like they are in an egg cup. I don't think I've had an upside down quail. Or if I did, I just thought it was a late quitter.

I always put the rubbermaid shelf liner down under the cartons too. It gives good traction for the chicks after they hatch and it helps to catch the hatch debris. I suppose it will give you some traction to stop the eggs from rolling a little. Originally I would throw them away, but it is a little pricey unless you can find it at the dollar store. But I've discovered it washes really well. Just throw them in your washer with a towel, they can even go in the dryer. I've been using the same ones continuously for a year now.

Five of the Heritage RIRs have hatched!

More eggs have pips too

They are so pretty and beefy from hatch. I will get pictures tonight.

I saw the RIR's at the Stockton show and I was amazed at their color. They were such a beautiful shade of red. That made me want some right then and there. Maybe I can get some eggs from you later on!!!

This is one of my big girls:

See the brick shape?

Well now that you mention it she does look like a brick with a tail, neck and head! OH and a fluffy butt!
One of those big boys at the Stockton show was mine. Here he is at the Fresno show and he's still a youngster.

Look at that comb!!! He is so pretty. I think I was so surprised by their color and how pretty they were because I had never seen any that looked that nice. They were all sort of washed out, dull and maybe a little more orange. More like the production reds.

Before I got all interested in chickens some years back, I never thought of chickens as being pretty. But they definitely are!
