The good Reds are making a strong come back. 30 or so years ago they were easy to find. Several years ago it was very hard. I now know of several sources of good ones.

Do you dream of Chickens too?
Lol I haven't yet! But I did hear peeping last night in my sleep and I thought I was imagining it! The bator is in my bedroom.

Wow, this week of midterms has been kicking my butt and it took me quite a while to make my way through all the posts. Yesterday I tried to candle some of the eggs but couldn't quite tell what I was looking at, only my serama egg was clear so that got tossed. Today I looked up egg development online and saw what the size of the chicks in the egg and thought since I couldn't see anything yesterday I thought maybe something had happened and the eggs had all gone bad since I didn't really see much besides some blood vessels. I decided to try again and I saw movement! Since my flash light isn't the best I only candled some of the lighter eggs and I found embryos in 5 of 6 of the light ones!

I swear 14 days away has never felt so far. Mind you some of the reptile eggs I hatch out can take anywhere from 60 to 105 days! I guess because 2 weeks is not too far in the future I feel more impatient and it feels longer.

At 7 days all you really need to see are the veins. A clear or dead egg looks completely different. Often there will be not movement when the eggs get to day 18.

It is very hard to wait for them to hatch!

How much would you all sell a five week old Silver Laced Polish (pretty sure cockerel) and Standard Sultan (pretty sure pullet) for? I want to start narrowing down our flock and these two are going. I also want to pass along our two hatchery RIRs and hatch some heritage ones later on. They're 4 weeks old. I don't mind keeping them until they're closer to laying so I can sell them for more, though. I was thinking I would mention them in the add, just since I know we are going to find them new homes, too. These are the birds: I was thinking $25 for both together? Too much/too little?

Can't find my camera! These are just crappy phone pictures.

Very handsome! I personally find roosters hard to get rid of. The higher the price...the harder it is to sell them. Unless it will make a good supper (that big) I give mine away anymore. I was able to sell the older ones (16+ weeks) for $5 and $10 a couple times. And I was selling FBCMs too. I think it depends on your area and if there is a desire for 2 roosters of that specific breed. Hope you can rehome them quickly!

The white one is a girl (we think) but I see what you mean. I guess I thought because they are "fancy" breeds someone might want them more, but that was probably a vain hope. I guess I'll just see what happens. I actually really like him, but he's bigger than all the McMurray chicks we got, four of which are roos, and he was biting Balthazar today! I'm sure that's probably normal, but Balthazar is my baby.

When we lived in Kenwood I would sell my extra chickens to Western Farm Supply in Santa Rosa. Not sure they still do that, but you could call and ask

If the white one is a pullet then I would say she is worth at least $20.00.
