Mine do not have sour crop, so you treat by washing the dirty bottom and put either monistat(gerneric from walmart) or athletes foot medicine for up to 14 days. I also have a pro biotic called Pro biotic defense brand name NOW. It is a powder in a gel cap, so I sprinkled one over yogurt for a couple of days. After the vent gleet is gone, I will give that to them once a week.
It is going away and the feathers are starting to come back. She will have a fluffy bottom soon!
First the 80# box arrived. You can see the old setup, along with the brooder where the chicks spend their first week so I can watch them.
Got it set up!
A peek at the top shelf, you can't see it actually holds 7 rows of eggs.
I've already got all three shelves filled, with a half tray of overflow in the bottom that need hand turning.................(but one whole shelf locks down this next week).

Threadgeek,
When I was assisting I used a q-tip to moisten the outer membrane and the shell. I also had my flashlight so I could see any veins. I was in a bathroom so I could swap out the warm wet paper towels. I also found tweezers really handy, I could use them to crush small portions of shell if I couldn't see where the veins were.
Thanks for the advice. A couple hours ago I used tweezers to remove the shell around the circumference from where he pipped, I was in a steamy bathroom and did use moistened q-tips. I tried removing some of the papery outer membrane but at one point I saw some blood. I'm extremely squeamish and had to take a few breaks with my head between my knees before continuing. I cleared his beak as best I could but there seemed to be some sort of veiny bulb at the base of his beak? Between not knowing what I was seeing and the blood I decided to put him back for a bit covered by wet paper towel. His breathing had slowed and about an hour later I think it stopped. I'm not clear if he would have made it if I had more experience of if he was deformed, but I'm just too squeamish to do an eggtopsy.

You did very well for it. It is a toss of the dice when you have to help them and yes, the mal postition could very well have caused it to die no matter what. It does get easier and next time with a couple of incubator setting tweaks the hatch will go better.
Thank you for the pictures! They look Great.
I look forward to seeing your Grocery store chicks tomorrow.

There will be residue in the eggs for 21 days after the last treatment. The problem with eating them is drug resistance when using tetracycline if you get sick. Another reason would be if the person eating the egg is allergic to tetracycline.
The eggs will not hurt you otherwise. Of course you could feed the eggs to the chickens. If you really needed to use a couple of those eggs....
Okay, here's the new toy.......... Got it set up! I've already got all three shelves filled, with a half tray of overflow in the bottom that need hand turning.................(but one whole shelf locks down this next week).

Awe, sorry you lost Charlie, you poor thing....you really went above and beyond the call of duty and way out of your comfort zone! But the others look healthy and fluffy!! Sounds like smooth sailing from here!
