My call ducks have started to lay!!!!!!!!!!!! I found four eggs in their pen today.

Now, if the mandarins would start to lay. I keep hoping to look in the pen and have the mandarin hen missing (in the nest box). So far no go. But they are constantly flirting and nuzzling each other. And the male is in full nuptial plumage.

Oh Gosh AmyBeth ......So adorable!
I thought so!!
That is a pullet.
I will. Hopefully when I get a broody! Gotta check with Mary too and see when she's ready.
Good luck with your massive staggered hatch!

Every single egg you sent is in lockdown. Fantastic, and now I'm wondering where I'm going to put all these birds. (got another 13 in the brooder, but mostly cockerels) I'll figure it out, I seem to manage somehow. Coop will be a wee bit crowded for the summer.
Yay!!

Miss Molly Brabanter Eggs??? Oh man I'll contact you when someone...who isn't even an egg yet...goes broody. That's not counting my chickens before they are hatched is it??

Guess what! Remember when Deerling posted the story on the Chinese Lady with the regular egg inside the enormous egg?? I got one of those today. I will post pictures but I have to go meet my husband. Till then I will tell you that:

The big egg is over 3 inches long, I found it on the poop tray, it was thin shelled and broken and inside was a perfectly formed but also slightly thin shelled normal sized egg. No Youlk in the big one. Will cook up the small one after I show my husband and feed it back to the girls. But it is the Weirdist thing! Ron I made pancakes and had left over buttermilk. I gave some to the girls last night because I remembered that you give yours buttermilk and then I got this today. Do you think it is related???

Awww I would love to see a pic of a call egg! Congrats!

Pullet or cockerel? This little one has me utterly stumped. It walks very tall, stands kind of like a Leghorn. But has next to no comb or wattle at 6 weeks? Whatever it is - it's coloring is awesome. This one is from your batch, Ron.

Agreed! The patterns and colors are beautiful! Great photography too!
