Quote: You could try acv in the water and give them plain yogurt with added active cultures, just a little bit each day. Often times they will benefit from chick grit too. That is a smaller version of grit for little chicks and it is given free choice in a separate little bowl for them.
Watch them though and if they start showing symptoms or if the poo stays runny, get them on the corid asap. They will die within a short period of time with a bad case of it. Get the corid from the feed store so that you have it on hand.
I did not intend to scare you but Coci is a bad one sometimes and is easily treated.
I love all pics of our birds. I am a HUGE nerd so I hope I never make anyone feel bad. I am always playing with my lenses, lighting, settings and then editing. It all is a part of my business so everything I shoot with my big girl camera gets 'star' treatment because I share them on photography forums, my facebook pages and I since I have so many photog friends on my Facebook the pressure to do this is really high. I don't want people who buy what I sell to lose confidence in me or what I produce. Don't beat yourself up. I won't say how much money all my crap cost me but it's much more than the cost of a nice point and shoot camera. <3 I recently figured out some people want to buy some of my chicken/duck photos (blows my mind) and that is really awesome for me! More incentive to try hard haha!
Sorry for just popping in to ask questions so much but I have another and this one is kind of time sensitive....I ended up with 17 chicks, first one hatched Sunday morning and the last one last night. Everyone seems good and healthy, moving around (the little WCP that hatched last night is still a little slow but think it's normal for it's age) and ready to go to their new homes tomorrow. But one of the first hatched has a bump about the size of a small marble on the right side of it's chest. I'm assuming it's the crop. It's not hard and when I palpate it seems to break up but not completely. The chick seems normal otherwise. I felt all the other chicks chest and this one is about three times larger then the fullest crop in the other chicks.
So what's going on? Over ate? The start of an impacted crop? Tumor?
Yep! And I live by a nice spot on the river that has a lot of shade, so I can shoot any time of day!
I've been really getting into B/W photography lately, I can blame my best friend for this new addiction. Heh, can we post non-chicken pictures? I'll make the preview small. This is one of my favorite B/W's, from the shoot with 4 BCRNC dogs a couple days back. Something about this dog works really well in B/W.
I'm making plans for my chicken brooder/coop.
I can hardly contain my excitement. I'm trying to keep the coop cheap, so I've been thinking of simply using wood pallets as the walls with plywood over it. Anyone done this before?
