They do have quite the awkward stage. I should take a picture of my new tolbunt, quite the character.

But silkies are right up there for the teenage looks.

DEB...what you have mandarins too? Oh my gosh I'd love to come over and photograph those sickeningly gorgeous birds.

Yes, the mandarins are beautiful!
Very nice looking!

My rottie looked amazing in bw. Lighting matters too. :D

A lot of people make the palette coops. They always looks so darn awesome!

I've seen a lot of pictures of coops made with pallets that have been torn apart, but I haven't seen any the way I described. Full pallets with just plywood nailed over it.

There was an ad insert in our paper today. Tractor Supply Co is having Chick days with Chicken things on sale!

Chick grit is 5.49, 50 lb.poultry oyster shell is 9.99. They have plastic nest boxes for 17.99. I might one one or two of those.....

How do you hatchers DO it? I am not even on day 10 yet and I am dying to know if I killed them all! haha!

Well, it is something. I have 11 mystery eggs in my incubator from the farmer in Winters. His goat disturbed a nest and he wants me to see if they will hatch. I have so many hatches going in it is crazy.

SG Dorkings and Delawares hatch Friday to Saturday.

Blue Australorps hatch on the 3rd

Black Penes hatch in two weeks

Tomorrow I set to shipments of Blue Egg Layers

God only knows when the mystery eggs will hatch and what they are.

I LOVE LOVE all the beautiful pictures! Tomorrow I plan on getting some baby chick "keep-away" footage to upload.
Quote: We did this for that chick and it worked well but took longer than expected (I think the link quotes ~10min which is probably accurate) and it took more vinegar than expected (but we just wanted to be really sure).

Quote: I WISH I could have done this, but just can't! It would be faster and easier all around if only I wasn't so squeamish. I was trying to get a certain someone (ehem, DH) to do it for me but he was having NONE of it! He is so supportive of any number of chickens I want and will build the coops/runs but when it comes to culling, not so much help!

Ron, I bought four of the plastic nesting boxes. I really like them. I can pull them off the wall and wash them.

I did have to work up to doing it, but I heard my Dad from the great beyond telling me to man up and just do it. After that there was no hesitation. One always did what Dad said to do...
