Quote: No citric acid--kills the chickens--BAD Times then......
I saw the answer to this earlier and it was a resounding no. I guess the Citric Acid makes it poison or at least very hazardous to use.Super exciting! I put water in the troughs and a sponge too and mine only went up to 65%.
Boots and Undies! Now that's a good look!![]()

I have a question on how you are using the Oxine. I looked it up on Revival and there is an option for it to come with Citric Acid crystals to activate it..... do you use it that way? I am not very familiar with this product so I am unsure about the Citric Acid part.
NO! Do not use the citric acid. That makes it toxic! I dilute it in water in a spray bottle and use it to disinfect waterers, brooders, etc. I also use it in the first soak when I sprout grain for the chickens. A little can be used in their water to prevent algae, bacterial growth, etc. but I usually use raw apple cider vinegar in the water instead. I also put a small amount in the water in the bottom of my incubator to prevent growth of beasties while incubating. You can also use it for mouth wash but I haven't tried that, yet! A gallon lasts a long time since you dilute it in water.Super exciting! I put water in the troughs and a sponge too and mine only went up to 65%.

How exciting!!!! Go, chickies, go!!!Eeeeee lockdown is today!(That smiley looks pretty happy, but imagine it has more of a nervous look on its face). With the Genesis 1580 do you put water in the troughs for lockdown, or just add another Tupperware or sponge? And with the sponge how often do you need to wet it?![]()
The woman I am getting the Calico Cochins from is waiting to send the eggs so I don't think I'll have to do a staggered hatch. Isn't that nice? Chicken people tend to be, I've noticed. I just am so glad to know you all - so happy we moved to Northern California before getting chickens!
I dreamed I heard the chickens super early this morning so definitely tramped out in my boots and undies to make sure everyone was okay. They were. Glad we don't have any close neighbor, I bet it won't be the last time.![]()

That's funny about this morning! I am out in the backyard in my PJs almost every morning. There is only one 2 story house that borders our yard. I guess if they want to get their jollies watching an old lady take care of chickens in her PJs & robe, that's okay with me! It is pretty entertaining especially when it is muddy!
I cant wear my robe outside anymore. Cranberries thinks it makes me look like a hostile bird. Between that and no culottes, the birds are cramping my style! Basically anything that is red or blue and flaps, he takes umbrage too.How exciting!!!! Go, chickies, go!!!![]()
