California - Northern

I have a hatch due tomorrow and two serama eggs are already pipped (along with a bantam rock, a silkie & a blue marans)

Glad to see you at least got a pair from your chicks. Love their tail set and posture.
That's great! Any smooth ones hatching? I'd love to get a couple more pullets. These guys are so attached, it would be good to have more in case something happens to one. The cockerel is quite the little macho man and she will not be parted from him! Generally speaking, with the white and mottled coloring, do they tend to get more color as they mature?

Quote: Yes! I was wondering the same thing.

It almost looks a bit like barring. Wouldn't a barred Serama be cool?

Good luck with you hatch Deb..
I have one do tomorrow also. I have 130 eggs in there for a friend and a few dozen of mine. His started to hatch yesterday. What a bummer. I hate it when some hatch so early. Then I have to open the hatchery sooner then I would like :/

Your two are so cute! Is he a splash?

Quote: The first pipped just popped out of the shell. Right now it's white, would LOVE it if it stayed white. But I'm sure it will end up like many of mine, the white with black & brown in their wings/tail. Usually I can see if they're frizzled within a week.

And yes, the color will change as they grow.

packing up my things this morning, before heading to campus for class (flight is this evening), and i just realized that this will be the first time i've been away from home since i got the chickens last summer -- no wonder i'm a bit freaked out, although of COURSE it has to be at a time when two are broody and one might be sick! but both of my neighbors have confirmed that they're up for it, so i just have to let it go. the cats are super-grumpy that they're not being let outdoors this morning -- five days stuck inside! poor things.g

good news is, Amelia One is looking a bit more active this morning, pecking around at the kale and tomatoes I just gave them -- so hopefully that's a false alarm. will keep them on corid, just in case.

Glad the Amelia is up and about. I have seramas hatching next week, I'm excited too! I have a trio that was born around christmas, so im expecting them to start showing thier stuff around the end of the month or so, they are SOO cute. One is tiny and the other 2 are just small. They came named gingerbread, snickerdoodle and nutmeg.

They are not allowed outside this week and are ANNOYED at me, gingerbread keeps crowing demanding escape!

Thank you for the coupon!

The Freedom non GMO is in stock in Davis now. I picked up the layer last week and am pleased to see that upped the protein to 17% for it. I will need to get starter and grower soon.

The Bresse look bigger every day.....
