So not to change the subject, but you are in Paradise and have Blue Copper Marans?  I haven't had good luck with my shipped Blue Copper Marans Eggs.  Did you get the Blue Copper Maran locally?  Sorry to be off subject...Sound like an exciting hatch is coming your way!  Best of luck to you :)!

I'll have eggs from my Blue Copper Marans covered by my Black Copper Marans available in a couple more weeks. They've only been exclusive to the BCM for a couple of weeks so there could still be some Olive Eggers from my EE roo. After this hatch I'll set some of their eggs. They lay nice dark eggs for Blues.
This is what's in the incubator now and my one egg from my blue is furthest to the right, mostly covered by the blue ribbon my BCM from debs_flock won.

Isn't it late in the season for snow??? And I was complaining because it has been windy and cold...
Precious story! What sweet chickies!

I'm sending lots of healthy vibes your way Molly.

Medical issues are so stressful and in my completely unprofessional opinion you should treat yourself to more chicken therapy.

2nd that Molly.
A few years back we got snow on May 31st.
it always snows after I get my garden going. This year I held off temptation lol

Remember the Black Penes?

I moved them into a brooder with week old Australorps. They each got adoptive "mothers" and would crawl under the big ones. I was worried that they would get smashed, so this morning I moved them into their own brooder. Tonight they started chirping very loudly.

I made sure they had water and food and that they were eating and drinking. I checked them for pasty butt and gave the baby vitamins without iron but they just kept chirping away. I finally gave in and moved them back in with the Australorps. One ran straight under one of the Blue ones and the other ran under one of the Black ones.

Not a chirp since. Who knew that week old Australorps would brood 3 day old Black Penes.....I may have a bunch of Broody hens some day too.
go penes go

If we did do a workshop/meet-up what kind of stuff would you want to learn for shooting chickens? Like composition, how to use manual (photography basics)??

How to use manual would be nice. How to take chick pics- mine never come out clear. I can't do extreme close ups for some reason and I don't know how to blur out the background like you pros do. I do take a lot of chicken pictures for record keeping on my breeding.

Well, this is what hatched here this morning. A Drum Horse colt. 3/4 Clydesdale and 1/4 Gypsy horse. He hatched out at about 125 pounds.

Look at the large bones on that boy! How sweet! I have calves being born. Last month it was sheep and chicks.

We spent the weekend on the lake in swimsuits but on the way in last night it was cold and overcast...gotta love the fickle Northern CA spring.
What's the water temp in Lake Oroville?

I have also been dealing with a few other health issues.. We are just trying t get to the bottom of things..

I wish you and Pam good health!

And the coop build drags on another day........ Doh.
Looking GOOOOOD! Same design as mine. It;s a good one.

Lol well.......I wouldn't want to offend any of the other less awesome threads.

Haha This one is the best I ask all my chicken questions here now.
Thank you everyone for the good thoughts. It really means a lot to me...
They sad it will be about five days until they get the report back.
It took for ever. They had to do it under contrast injection. That means two times...
The whole time I was thinking about how I would rather be home playing with my chickens

I got a kick out of the far side carton. My life is like a carton in so many ways.....

Continued prayers and well wishes Milly! Sorry it took so darned long!
My Bresse's breeding pair was eating her egg. I now let them free range and she goes back in her coop almost daily and lays me her egg. She is no longer eating it. They must have needed more protein ..., I feel bad I didn't catch it sooner...live and learn

That's How I feel so glad I had great advice and was encouraged to try something different. I hope it works.

Cutest story ever! Reminds me of the stories of twins who fuss and fail to thrive in the NICU until they are put together in the same isolette.

HA! Changing the subject is what we do and the people here are beyond happy to feed your chicken addiction! Seriously just ask and you will find out where to lay your hands on just about any breed you can want.

I think my partridge chantecler eggs have quit. One was clear and I have two more in the bator but I don't see dancing embryos. On the bright side I am pretty sure that I saw movement in all 20 of the other eggs. Leaving the PCs unless they start to stink. Am on day 11!

We always get something nasty the last weekend in may!!!!! The girls have dance recital that weekend and were always running in with costumes through the snow, hail, or freezing rain. Never mind the week before we usually get the first sunburn of the season at the beach?!? Gotta get used to being confused with mountain weather. Kinda like being a confused chicken lady wondering which breed to get next...lol!

How sweet! I agree with the others and would love to see pics of them with their surrogate mommies!

Edited to add or a video!!!

Picture time! I apologize in advance for my poor quality pictures, I was using my cellphone indoors. My babies are now almost 3 1/2 weeks and are getting friendlier. A couple of them jump up on my arm when I put my hand in their brooder. There are 10 total, 5 lavender and blue ameraucanas, 1 orpington, and 4 grocery store chicks. I would appreciate any guesses on who the pullets/cockerels are!

This is Lucy, I have two of these (Minna is the other) and the other has a slightly shorter tail. I'm quite partial to them so am keeping my fingers crossed that they are girls.

Another view of Lucy

Eponine, another favorite.

Jojo and one of the grocery store chicks. There is another chick that looks like Jojo but he doesn't have a name yet.

Jojo and another grocery chick (or possibly the same one again!).

I've noticed that some of them like to have scuffles. Are the cockerels the only ones that do this?
Cute chicks! I need to take new pics of mine. It is hard to believe that they are 2 1/2 weeks old already! My favorite one is looking like he is a boy. He is the tiny Icelandic mix and all of a sudden he is sporting a comb on his little head! My other favorite also is sporting a huge comb and tiny pink wattles! Why is it always the favorites that end up being boys?!!!
