A friend of mine has GCM chicks hatching today from a line she has been working on, and I have reserved a couple of rooster chicks for my girls

I am hatching some right now too. I have about 6 from my pair and a dz shipped eggs in the incubator, right now. I would be happy to trade.

Thank you everyone for the good thoughts. It really means a lot to me...
They sad it will be about five days until they get the report back.
It took for ever. They had to do it under contrast injection. That means two times...
The whole time I was thinking about how I would rather be home playing with my chickens :)

I got a kick out of the far side carton. My life is like a carton in so many ways.....

I had one of those several years ago! Not fun. I hat MRI machines...

Hope you the report comes back good for you.

it is snowing snowing I say
Our snow was falling with rain this afternoon. It stuck on Siskiyou Summit this am. I'm done with snow I hope, Eric is planting the raised beds. It's still to early for me, we'll just end up re-planting, happens every year.
OMG, can't believe it's still snowing so low, although I did hear on the news the snow level was surprisingly low. We spent the weekend on the lake in swimsuits but on the way in last night it was cold and overcast...gotta love the fickle Northern CA spring.

MRI's and I don't get along w/o Valium. I hate that I can't convince myself that it's ok! And what's up with waiting so long for results?? I need a biopsy but they can't get me in for a month! Hope everything is good news, aren't you glad you have your chickens to think about while the machine plays the drums around your head?

Picture time! I apologize in advance for my poor quality pictures, I was using my cellphone indoors. My babies are now almost 3 1/2 weeks and are getting friendlier. A couple of them jump up on my arm when I put my hand in their brooder. There are 10 total, 5 lavender and blue ameraucanas, 1 orpington, and 4 grocery store chicks. I would appreciate any guesses on who the pullets/cockerels are!

This is Lucy, I have two of these (Minna is the other) and the other has a slightly shorter tail. I'm quite partial to them so am keeping my fingers crossed that they are girls.

Another view of Lucy

Eponine, another favorite.

Jojo and one of the grocery store chicks. There is another chick that looks like Jojo but he doesn't have a name yet.

Jojo and another grocery chick (or possibly the same one again!).

I've noticed that some of them like to have scuffles. Are the cockerels the only ones that do this?

The first time I ran into the egg eating thing was when my father in law bought a place that came with chickens. He killed the chicken each time he saw yolk on its beak. He soon had no more chickens.

Get some Granulated Sea Kelp, Food Grade Diatomaceous earth and mix it into their feed. Make sure they have free choice calcium and get them some big ole bird from Southland Organics.

I am not convinced that your hens are egg eaters.

Edited to add: I don't normally suggest using Soy, but you might consider giving them some Calf Manna or some other source of animal protein too.

Seriously, almost all cases of egg eating is mal nourished or parasite infected hens.

My Bresse's breeding pair was eating her egg. I now let them free range and she goes back in her coop almost daily and lays me her egg. She is no longer eating it. They must have needed more protein ..., I feel bad I didn't catch it sooner...live and learn :)
