Any black smudges on em?

No.

You should submit that to pic of the week on BYC!
sad to report my first predator loss here:

Your place must be like mine. I don't have predator problems as long as everyone gets locked up tight at night. So sorry for your loss. I know that it can be a challenge to always make sure that they are all in the coop before it gets dark when you have so many others things to do and places to be.

So not much change from last night...I did assist a tiny bit with the zipping in the chick that had pipped but made no progress in about 20 hours

so current head count is 6 and it is day 22. no signs of anything in the other eggs but I will be gone most of the day and I may be surprised when I get back.

I wish that your hatch would have gone better. The entire process seems so daunting, that's why I don't attempt it. I hope that you enjoy the chicks that do hatch.

Congrats to Kelly and others who have broodies! I'm jealous.

I have squirrels under one of my coops and my dogs have been excavating, trying to reach them. It's such a mess, I don't know what to do. HUGE DEEP holes. I'm hoping the coop doesn't fall over due to lack of footing!

Ron, I sent you an email, yesterday. Did it go in the junk file again? Have a wonderful day everyone!

Someone could join me in my Langshan project! I'm planning on breeding to SOP before thinking about egg color. Have you read the Langshan Thread!!! Welcome to 2012! thread? It is not very active but there is some great info there. We have one member from South Wales and another from Australia. There has been a lot of discussion about Croads. I really wonder how many of the UK Croads actually lay an egg that looks purple. The gentleman in South Wales believes that our Langshans in this country are identical to the Croads that they have there. We've also talked about how there was some problem with the Langshans in Australia so they bred them to Australorps so they are different than the Croads. Anyway, come on over to the thread and join us!

I forget if I've posted pics of my Langshan eggs on this thread but I love the color and they do occasionally have a hint of purplish bloom.

ohh by the way very nice eggs. I am super impressed with the color. I did not know they laid a egg that dark

Now my eyes are a little more open. Not fully mind you cause I haven't had my cup o'joe yet, but there are about 5 more Pips.

The Millie Fleur Leghorns and a couple more Polish, oh and one of the shipped Wheaten Ameracauna's. That one looked a bit more normal in its development, just had a saddle shape aircell.

ohh Mille Fleur.
So I am enjoying a special treat.
My friend got back from Hawaii this week and brought me some 100% Kona from Maui Coffee Company. My favorite

Yes it is time for a hatch update! I hope they are ok and hatching!

If not post eggtopsy pictures so we can get the next hatch working even better!

Awww man! You want pictures of dead chicks???? Bleck! What a sick group this is!

I have been dreading that idea, but at the same time I wanna know what I may have done wrong. Does it stink a lot when you open an egg that did develop but not hatch?

There were a couple with giant air cells so it doesn't take much to figure what happened with those.

I think one thing against me was trying to do so many different types of eggs, size and color wise from different places. Some lost a lot of moisture and some not so much. It is hard to adjust the humidity for both situations.

I will keep all the addicts updated :). I am just glad someone even cares and knows more than me and willing to help. :)

thanks -- i got home late from school that evening, so they were only out for a half-hour or so, and usually they all come running at dusk since i give them treats -- BUT if they're in the middle of a luxurious dust bath, they will occasionally ignore me, and that's the only thing i can imagine -- she was a mostly-white chicken, so hard to miss even at dusk!

A dead chick in the egg will not smell too bad. If it looks clear then open it inside a closed zip lock bag.

You can use the spoiler tool

I wish I could but am on breed and special project overload lol
LOL! We can't even get our breeding pens finished so that we can start our projects! My main focus is on the Langshans. We are going to breed all 4 colors this year and then decide which ones to focus on. Then we also have a trio of Bresse, Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks that we may or may not keep breeding, a little quad of Welsummers, and a dream of breeding Cream Legbars. That's where we stand now but only God knows what will happen and what direction we will take! Just have to get the pens done, soon!
