California - Northern

so I am starting to make more headway in my effort to acquire more Penedesenca.
I have Crele teenagers ( 3 hens and a roo) I plan on breeding. I would like up to 6 more though.

I am hoping to acquire Black Penedesenca eggs from two members. also waiting on chicks from Sandhill which? no word.
I have also been speaking to a breeder about the Empordanesa." Thanks to a fellow BYC'ER
so hopefully this time next year I will have three breeding flocks.

This breed seems to be falling off the map which to me is very discouraging.
If anyone is wondering what these chickens are look them up. You will be suprised. Great Country Chickens. Very dark terra cotta brown eggs.
If anyone has any ideas where I can search as well. please Please let me know.

It has become a Quest now

Have you looked for hatching eggs on EBAY? There are usually always Wheaten and Partridge Penedesenca eggs for sale, the listings show pretty decent egg color too.

You could use the Partridge to create more Crele, probably with better egg color too.

oh they are in Canada. left them a email seeing if they can ship our way.

Canada is one of the easiest to ship eggs from. It's a bunch easier if you can drive yourself. Are there any in British Columbia? You can get back here from there in two days. Lot's of driving though.

What age is a chicken a 'teenager'?
It's when the hormones kick in, like a human teenager

That is usually between 4 and 6 months. The pullets usually calm down after they lay the first egg.

I hear Cockerels will calm down, but it takes longer and some are just plain mean.
