How long should shipped eggs take to get from MA to here?
How long have you been waiting? I'd think 3 days but I don't know. I ordered some fro AK and they came in 2 days. Did they give you a tracking number? Sometimes it helps to know where they are in the shipment process. Also so you can call the post office and pick them up directly if your postal worker has a long route...

What did you order

Oh my goodness, the difference in having the 6 week olds out of the house is HEAVEN. The girls are loving the coop (which still needs finishing... and now to get working on the big run...). For my first chickens, I had no idea how entertaining Tiny Chicken Television could be. Even the neighbors have been coming over to watch reruns in the evenings. Can't wait for eggs!
Chicken Television is my favorite show to watch!! I love to get home from work and go in the backyard to watch them. They are so funny!

I don't have to raise the Guineas or the Turkeys if they hatch. They will be going to live with Farmer Shepard in Winters.

Someone on the Easter Hatch a Lon had a Rooster with no feet!

. The feet fell off from Frostbite and the Rooster seemed to be getting along fine walking on stumps.
OMG that sounds like a crazy site!

Here's a couple more chick pictures, as promised...

Light Brahma number 1

Light Brahma number 2

I'm going to TRY to take pictures of them every day, to document their growth. (well, of the 8 I'll be keeping until they feather out, not the 7 RIRs I also have pics of)
Beautiful, beautiful little babies! They are so cute! I tried to take pictures every day with my first chicks and failed miserably.. although I was able to do a weekly photo shoot for the most part :) Keep sharing pictures!

Kind of a busy weekend with trying to start building my coop. I wish I had a friend that was knowledgeable and handy with this kind of thing so I didn't have to struggle through. :) It is kind of fun, but now that I am on a time limit, I am a little stressed. Weekends only building is slow going.

I didn't get a pile of pictures yet. I will try more tonight.

I also have to do an official count. Today is day 22 and I had 2 hatch over night. No more pips in what is left. The smell in the bator is KILLING ME!

I believe I set 36 at lockdown and of those 2 looked to be early quitters. I have one Polish that hasn't pipped, One CL, One Welsummer and about 9 or so of the shipped Wheaten Ameracaunas that haven't even pipped.

Amazing the vitality difference between the hatched and shipped eggs. The 3 Wheatens that did hatch, they all had goo stringing behind them and the one chick I am having issues with is the third Wheaten to hatch yesterday and it was pretty weak to begin with. I had to finish zipping the shell and pull the top off.

The Polish also had issues a little. They all pipped half way down the shell and start out really pretty weak but then perk up pretty good after a day.

I didn't really intervene in any other chicks.

I will start posting pics to see if you can help me identify what I have. Deann should be the best able to help because she is the one I got everything form but the WA's.

This is a blue something..... lol. I can't remember what I had in there now. I have to go look at my list.

Sorry for the distance of the picture, but I was sticking my camera down in the brooder and just snapping pics. The Polish chick there on the left is probably a boy. He runs out, was pecking my phone, fairly fearless, I think he might be a gold laced polish, but not sure.

I am pretty sure I have at LEAST one Cream Legbar boy. PetRock? You still need a boy?

So adorable!! I love those colors!

It's Bumblefoot. :( Pretty mean case of it too. I tried to attach pictures from my phone but the site keeps kicking the image off while it's uploading. Must be too big.
Oh no Zoo!! Do you know how to fix that? I've never had it happen (yet).

I guess cut it open, dig it out, flush it out, pack it with neosporin, bandage it up and keep her clean for a few days changing bandages...Poor thing. She is my most 'beat' up hen. Her back is SO bare it looks like I mistreat her. The rooster that started it is now gone but the damage remains. I gave her a bath, cleaned her poopy butt very thoroughly. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed right now. I have a ton of things to do- and this is but one of them. I have a rooster to cull and my people won't eat him since he was a pet. ahhhh Stressed.

How are those Pina Pintas? Oh I am so drooling over them!

I do have a question. I think I might have answered part of my question today when I discovered bumblefoot on my hen. She is also the most banged up (rooster favorite) and missing much of her back feathers and even head feathers. I lovingly bathed her this morning- she was a sweet girl. Put her in the side yard to dry (all alone). Once fluffy I inspected her foot and took pics and released her for now. Observations:

1. She gets around fine no limping.
2. Stays with the flock, foraging and chilling out.
3. Has a good appetite and drinks water like a champ.
4. Does not seem depressed at all.
5. Def has a mean case of bumblefoot that started at the bottom of her foot and has moved also as a bubble to the top of her foot. It does not feel warm yet.
5. I checked her vent and it pink and normal looking.
6. I noted that the area where her oil gland is, is very very dirty. I tried to clean it as best as I could but I couldn't get all the dark brown away from it. I'm hoping the fact that she is all clean every where else- even her poopy butt will help her clean up better.
7. She is very alert and active.
8. No one else has any problems with their feet, just her. I suspect blackberry bushes- we have them and before we whacked them down it's where she would lay her eggs. I think that's how it started.

I know I will need to treat her bumble. What I am thinking on right now is if she might have other issues- the dirty oil gland to me seems suspect...and if it is it's own thing OR secondary because she might have been dealing with this bumble for several weeks....any thoughts? When I remove her from treatment - I will offer some yummy nutritious treats to just aide the whole process.

Thanks guys, I cleaned up the little rear ends on the chicks with pasty butt. They don't have it very bad.
Mom is getting me some plain yogurt at the store, I'm assuming I just put a little on a small dish and see if they'll eat it...what do I do if they don't? Sprinkle food in it?

Mix it with cooked oatmeal. You can also dip their beaks into it. My chickens go crazy for it so there is not problem getting them to eat it.

I emailed GQF this morning (because they don't seem to like phones) and they told me they would send out a replacement thermostat.

I asked if they received reports of malfunctioning thermostat's from any others and they said they received a small batch of the 1588's that were improperly soldered.

They didn't say, "why yes we have cooked several batches of chickens," but it sounds like there weren't surprised by my description of the problem.

Just FYI.
