California - Northern

A couple of snapshots.

Now this is the kind of sleeping chick that gets your heart thumping.

Our week old goslings cruising in the living room with DH.
snacking on chopped lettuce here.
it's amazing how quickly they grow.

And tomorrow the rest of the crew is supposed to arrive

The goslings are so smart and so personable........................I could have just them!

Photo of the sleeping baby is simply priceless!! The goslings are very cute, and look like they are carrying on serious conversation. In the past, we had couple of goslings who were adorable, sweet, and very friendly babies; but, when they reached adulthood, all changed. They used to chase not only our friends who used to come for a visit, but all of us as well. We were chased and bitten numerous times. We tried our best to get them out of chase&bite habit but, regardless of how much we tried, nothing worked..it was a very sad experience. Finally, we gave them away to our friend who has a big ranch with a good size pond on it.

That is an that was an infertile! A fertile egg would have something in it.

 Clear eggs=not fertile.

Blood rings are usually a fertile egg that had bacteria in it.

So even if the eggs were handeled badly in shipping, they would develops something if fertile? I have 10 of my 15 shipped eggs that are completly clear.

Now THAT is precious! (Excuse the pun.) I seriously need a broody!

   My daughter doesn't think that she should have that name.  As top hen, Precious rules and makes sure the other hens know it.  Monet roots for the underdogs and gets upset when Precious or her enforcers put the others in their place.

Oh, LOL! Well you can't blame her, I suppose.

No. Clears are eggs that don't develops. An egg that has been xrayed for example may not developed.

Unless you inspect your yolks for bulls eyes you won't know if they were inseminated. Been then if the yolks are too old it is hard to see.

God morning everyone. I might be buying some more showgirls from a breeder getting out of the business, I am both very excited and slightly worried I'm crazy...

hooray for broodies! i've just ordered a batch of birchen marans and SFH eggs for my latest broody girl... in the meantime, Eleanor is doing a great job with her two chicks, and i've got a watch on broody #2's nest for any sign of pipping or peeping...

(and it's the last week of classes at school, AND one of my departmental colleagues unexpectedly has decided to retire NOW, and everything's chaos. it's such a welcome relief to home each afternoon to the relatively simplicity of ChickenLandia!)
Broodies are the best!

Yes, our remodel started last October, the kitchen was stripped to the sheetrock and had lots of other places in the house repaired. It was like living out of a foot locker. I cooked Thanksgiving dinner on a hotplate and in the guest apt. oven over the garage, LOL. The only thing left is painting all the interior and replacing the carpet..........it was pale dove gray about 30 years ago.................

Who puts dove gray carpeting in a house in the country?

on the eggs!
When we bought our house it was only a year old, cream colored carpets. It had big areas from the beginning that I could not get cleaned. The next year we ripped it out and did hardsurface and you would not believe the red dirt that had sifted through the carpet and pad. No wonder it wouldn't get clean steam cleaning, it just kept pulling it up!
