Sorry to jump in without commenting (over 200 posts since this morning?! I read them all.) but was wondering if this is something we have to worry about here: http://local.msn.com/fever-hits-thousands-in-parched-west-farm-region? Valley Fever? (for humans, I mean

No, Do not worry about it. If you live here of visit during a windy day, the you have had Valley Fever.

People with lung problems or weakened immune systems that recently moved to the western States would worry about it. Healthy people that recently moved here will get it and not even know it. A small percentage have cold like symptoms and very rarely someone gets very sick from it. Once you have been exposed and your immune system beats it, you are immune to it.

Chickens and animals get it too. I would have gotten as a toddler years ago.

Looks like we have 7, the 8th one just isn't absorbing the yolk sack. I'll keep watching it and give it a chance but not holding out much hope. Eric calls them all "Seven".

Great pictures everyone!

I might have to do the cage trick too. If it gets hot again, these silly hens might kill themselves by cramming in the nest box like that. Broody hens can be fun..but too many causes a lot of drama in the coop.

I agree. Fun when it's just one. A pain in the rear when you have multiple broodies. I have 1 broody and an Icelandic hen was on the nest last night, so looks like I have 2 now.

Candled last night. Couldn't help myself!!! All is well on the light eggs but my ccl eggs are black. Well almost. It's been at least 4years since I candled blue eggs and they weren't this huge so I don't remember if that's good or bad. aHHHhH! Someone tell me it's all peachy keen and I'm becoming a worry wart. I thought I had left the "stressed out" days behind me. What a joke. One 0% hatch and now I'm right back to the nervous Nellie of 7 years ago!

My blue momma hen and her babies. She doesn't let anyone mess with her babies without putting up a fuss. The babies tend to nearly disappear in the deeper grass, but all come a running when she calls them.

Trisha, it is evident the hard work you have put into your breeding program. Loved reading your story about it. Are the blues accepted yet?
