In sadder news, we had to cull the turkey. ON closer isnpection she had something else wrong with her legs, and could not put weight on one of them. I had een holding her to keep her legs in place at night before i went to bed, and petting her to sleep. I bawled like a baby, im not handling this one well :(.

I am so so sorry.

If a seasoned pro like you still bawls like a baby I have no hope of ever getting over it!
thanks for all the hugs. Turkeys really DO bond more. I can usually be logical about chicks, but the turkeys look at you so trustingly. If ti was a chick I might have worked a bit harder, but turkeys are so big, weak legs would kill it even if I did manage to get her standing on them before she was full grown.

I buried her under the lemon tree where all the special ones go.

aarg. Multi will only quote quotes from last week. how does that even happen on a window that was not OPEN last week? I blame cookies!

Laura, the ones with spots are FCBM's they are white and black when they are born, they will be easy to keep track of they get BIG fast.
Derling,
glad to hear my little grandchicks are doing well. at least silkies look less like chickasauri then other chickens, they are almost cute even then. I imagine the Marans must be towering over them if it turned out to be a he!

thanks for the detail! it looks like maybe both of the FCBMs have hatched, then, and two of the icelandic surprises. two more to go, plus the three bresse!

He is!! And he's in with the chicks we hatched on the 13th, so it makes him look even bigger. He's getting waddles already. I'll get pictures later today.

arghh, speedy is already wandering off her nest in search of food, taking her four new babies with her but leaving the five remaining eggs behind... should i steal them & put them other Frances, who's stayed put in her nest with her four?

or should i stop being such a mother hen myself & just sit back & let her (hopefully) figure it out? (i did move the feeder thing to be right next to her nest box, so she can reach it without getting up)

No, she is probably content with the four she has. Try to move the eggs to your other broody if you can't incubate them yourself.

Lol, your broodies have a d d . Mine don't move for days. I'd move em, especially if you have pips.
