I can't believe how fast these chicks are growing...I swear that just yesterday they were only little balls of fluff! Now their wings are almost fully feathered, they have little tails, and oh my gosh they're just growing so fast.
We're finally going to start the coop this week, tomorrow we go to buy materials that we still need(have most of it). Mom works out of town 3 days a week, but on the 4 that she's here she does not work, and I do independent study for school, so we pretty much have all day to work on it on days that she's here. We've already dug out the area for the coop/run, because we are putting hardware cloth underneath it to prevent digging animals from getting in.
And this little Light Brahma is not so little any more.
I feel kind of bad for her, all her sisters can fly up to the little roost I made for their brooder, but her small wings can't carry her fat little body up there!
You can see that Nelly does approve of having a "sheep" on her head.
The first pic they're discussing the photo shoot....second one, the blue is giving the dance steps, third one, the two on the right and the far left are on step, second to the left is trying to remember the dance and the blue is the lead singer!

So cute that your dog just stands there! haha Isn't it crazy how fast they grow? Mine are the same age as yours I think (2 weeks) and have feathers coming in like crazy!
I set eggs on April 18th at 11A, so today (or tomorrow?) is day 21. Yesterday afternoon I heard lots of peeping from the eggs, this means they have internally pipped, right? I looked this morning, and I can't see any pips in the shell, and I don't hear any more peeping. Should I be worried? Are they just resting? Is internal pipping part of the 24 hour then help them, or just after pipping the shell?
I have only ever had one broodie BATTLE. And that was when I moved the head hen. A week later she got lost while she was going on her constitutional and went to the old spot and thought everyone had stolen her eggs and went hulk.
Since they all have chicks, they should just scream at each other and puff up. My guess is they will be outside with the babies so they can get farther away from each other. You have big hens with not a ton of chicks so you should be OK.
Remember if your docile broodie wants to get up today move the eggs to the next broodie and ninja chicks! (I'm guessing its day 3 today)
They are just resting. Give them time. The 24 hours before helping is after they pip through the shell.
The only time I will help an egg hatch is if they have zipped, then got stuck. In the past I have helped some chicks and I ended up having to put them down later. So it's just not worth it to me.
Thanks. These are the first shipped eggs I have hatched, and I worry about them. The air cells are weird, and only 3 of 15 made it to lockdown.... I'll just let them do their thing.

Aren't you lucky?!!! My last incubator hatch of 7 has 4 boys so my odds are a little bit better. My broody hatched 3 of her 4 eggs almost 2 weeks ago. I'm still waiting to see if they are boys are girls. One of them just acts like a boy so as of right now it is 1 and 2 until proven different!
I'm doing reasonalby well this year. Mind you, I have been hatching a LOT of Marans and silkies, and you dont know thoes for forever, so I could be lying my teeth off, lol.
