Hmmm, is the orangey color on the shoulders/neck standard on the Langshans?
Some of my BCM chicks (darker foot color?)

My Toulouse goslings came today! The post office called at 7:45 a.m. - "Your chicks are here."
The girls are so freaking cute!
Congratulations mom! I just love my goslings. Every late afternoon/evening we sit out on the lawn (we have a cocktail) and let the goslings/ducklings play and graze. When they've had enough, they come and lie by me. I then walk them back to their shed and count bills (noses) as they jump up the step back into their pen. With the ducks, the group now numbers 25. George, the American gander is still my favorite, although his lady Martha is a close second. Ping, the Chinese gander is the enforcer. He's the one you can count on to run around and nip unruly ducklings.
Toulouse! I love that breed! Congrats! My Toulouse goslings came today! The post office called at 7:45 a.m. - "Your chicks are here."
The box contained three female goslings and six barred rock chicks, cockerels of course.
They are all settled into their first brooder, which is a rectangular bird cage with an EcoGlow, and their feed and water. I will move everybody to a big bin in a couple of days, because those goslings will grow fast.
I'll post pictures later. I just had to get them settled and comfy, first.

I'm not sure. These were the first black Langshans that I hatched. The two breeds sure look similar at birth, don't they? Of course, BCMs have Langshan blood in them!
If you saw blood, the best thing is to leave it alone. I usually will wrap the egg loosely in a damp paper towel, just leave the open area on the egg peeking out. Keep it damp and keep the humidity up in the incubator. Blood means the duckling was not ready to hatch. The blood vessels will recede and the baby can continue with the hatch. If there was very much blood, it usually does not look good for the baby. If it was only a tiny bit, things should still be able to go fine. I'd say to not expect it for at least another day.Hatching help. Please. Betty keeps getting off the duck eggs. They need more moisture than the chicken eggs do. I could see in the egg pip and the membrane was turning white and encasing the ducklings body. I tried to chip a little piece of the egg off to see how extensive the shrink wrapping was and my finger slipped and I tore of a large piece than I intended (too much caffeine ugh). So it's bleeding some. I took the egg from Betty (took her other duck egg too) and put them in the bator with the other duck eggs hatching (replaced it with 4 chicken eggs almost ready to hatch). Did I ruin the baby duck? What should I do it for it? I just put it in the bator with the others. The humidity is good and its warm. I just didn't know if I signed her death warrant or there was something else I can do. Betty is a good broody for chickens- she is very devoted but she does like her ME time about 2-3 times a day and she is ditching them for 30-60 minutes at a time while they had pipped. :\ Thanks!
