Ron, thank you so much for the adorable little RIR chicks!!! And thank you for meeting us half way yesterday! The traffic home through Rio Vista was not too bad! The RIR chicks are bigger than my two little Bresse chicks. George has such a soft spot for our Bresse and he was worried that the bigger chicks would pick on the little ones. We put the four RIRs in the brooder and one little Bresse (pretty sure he is a cockerel) ran up to them and pecked them. Then both of the Bresse chicks went around pulling the RIR chicks' tiny little wing feathers. The four RIRs just ignored them and proceeded to do their chick business! George was relieved that they have all adjusted so well!

I'll try to take some pics later! They are so cute together!

Silly chicks! The Horstman RIRs are very peaceful. Bresse are too usually. They should get along fine!

I had a good trip home too. It was bumper to bumper going the other say though.

I am looking forward to pictures!

Ok so if I have my EEs in their own pen with their roo and I put my BCM roo in for a little while everyday is there a chance he will fertilize them? And I'll hatch a few OEs?

Have you had a girl cat go into heat and have several suitors?

The chicks will be like that--different fathers. It would be perfectly fine for yourself.

Ugh. Every freakin night my chicks knock over their water(which is up on a wood block), meaning they have nothing to drink at night(from whenever the knock it over until I get up) and it leaves the sand wet. But if I take it off the wood block, they fill it with so much sand that they can't get any water.
These chicks are driving me nuts!

Would a bigger waterer fit? Maybe the weight of a larger one would keep them from knocking it over. I have not found a good hanging waterer.

That's interesting ! I had a bad experience this hatchet rir and even production. If I want a "little red hen" for the kids I pick up a New Hampshire ... Let me guess... It's a advantage of the true heritage breeds?

Well, as soon as the coop is finished, they're going outside...so I don't really want to buy a waterer for them to use just for a week or so before getting an even bigger one for outside...Unless..will my chickens need food & water both outside AND inside the coop?
