I like the new Avatar Deb! I think you are right. I already sent her a reply telling her it was a no. I also now of course remember it was you who got the proposition from the CL add. People. The problem with them is that they are everywhere

Yeah it is too hot to ship now has to be under 85 coming and going. Express for birds can take up to 3 days so needs climate weather.

It's 110 in the shade, on my covered deck. 89 inside with the swamp cooler running (we have no AC). Which is why I snicker when people talk about their chickens needing AC.

Almost all the chickens are panting. Not excessively so, I don't think. Ron, your Penes and UofA's look about the same. Panting a little, but ok. I have a feed pan of water in there because it's easier to refill. One of the UofA's likes to stand in it. Smart bird, that one. I hosed the sand down in there, but maybe they would prefer a pool.

The most comfortable are the chicks/youngsters running around on the lawn under the mulberry trees. And the broodies, they aren't panting. Weird.

The youngest chicks in the stock tank brooder were panting. I put in an ice pack, which they are standing on. DH put a fan in that coop, so hopefully that will help.

One of my older Dork pullets died this morning. No symptoms, no panting. She isolated herself, didn't want to go in the coop last night. Seemed fine, otherwise, then just died. I didn't have time to take her to Davis but everyone else is fine, other than hot.

Quote: I agree, it's hard to beat the eyeliner on a partridge chick. I should post a picture of my latest baby.............from a couple of days ago. I also hatched a chick (buff) that without a doubt is the fluffiest silkie chick I have EVER hatched. I'll have to take a picture of it.
Love your new avitar - nice and cool. Wish I was.. it hit 100 outside and I don't want to go check it any more...

Yes.. want to see fluffy chick pictures...

love fluffy chick pictures...

why doesn't that sound right?
I have a taker for my SFH baby...IN GEORGIA!! She has 3 girls and wants this little guy but I have no idea how to ship him. I am not sure that I want to either. Does it seem odd to anyone else that she can't find one closer?
Um, I wouldn't ship. Unless you are NPIP - and you have the proper paperwork to ship live animals over to Georgia.. I wouldn't ship. That, and the heat as Deb mentioned. AND the cost. If you go look on the SFH thread there are at least two or three available over in that area (Florida, etc)...

I put my young SFH extra roo on Craig's List and I found a taker - for $10.00 - she came up and got hm. Keep looking - somebody else around here would love to have him.

You can ship them express mail, with USPS, but it is expensive. I think it's between $50 and $80. They have special boxes to ship chickens in.

It was only supposed to be 93 here and this morning it wasn't too bad outside. But now it is sweltering! I'm not sure how hot it got but it is 101 now at 5:50.

Well, I did it. I turned off the incubator and opened the door. It is hot enough to incubate eggs with it OFF! I will just have to remember to close the door and turn it back on...

The next batch is 17-18 days along - and they seem to be producing their own heat. I had to open the door to cool it off!

My poor thermostat was on "cool" cycle only I don't have it hooked up to anything to cool it off. I think I might try and find a fan and put it on in the back to pull the hot air out from the top - the air can come in the bottom. OR - should I put it so it sucks the air IN from the bottom? Any ideas? Sportsman cabinet upgraded to digital thermometer - all else the same.

Thanks for the input on shipping and the encouragement to keep looking for a home for him and his Icelandic flockmates

Hot is right! Kim I feel for you with no AC. We never had it when I was growing up and ugh!

can you stand another Cockerel or Pullet photo session

This is little Ray I hope he is a pullet.

There is a comb and it is more pink than yellow but it is small. Your thoughts??

Thanks for asking that question, Pam. I've been trying to compare the Genesis 1588, the Brinsea Octagons and the Rcoms. I like the way that Brinsea has all the info on their units, easy to read & compare. With the Rcoms, it's difficult to figure out the differences between the different units. What are the differences between the Suro, the Max, the Pro?
I appreciate your input on them, Jason. The fact that they don't hold many eggs is disappointing, makes the Brinsea look a little better. The Genesis holds even more eggs, but temps in my non climate controlled house are always fluctuating and that might be a problem for that unit. ???

Love your new avatar, logo, Hangtown Farms!

Stay cool, everyone! Ron, your birds are doing fine.
well thanks. I wanted the r-com pro 50 but it was almost 900.00
sutro has gotten bad reviews ( main one. king sutro is not worth the r-com name )
max 20 is digital you just have to adjust the humidity and turn off the turner at 19 days
the pro is fully digital you have to do nothing turn on and it does the rest just add water when the warning comes on.
it was much more money than the max but is the same otherwise. I figured I would read a calender and save a few hundred bucks

I chose the R-com over the Brinsea mainly for 3 reasons. I do not like the whole thing turning. R-com is stable not that thats a problem. Just a Jason thing
I do not want to get sea sick looking at my incubator
sickbyc.gif

second it holds temps and humidity spot on

The main reason though is many many exotic bird breeders use the R-coms to hatch high dollar parrots which says alot to me.

I have got a long wait for any egg song. Everyone is still sort of peeping but I did think I heard someones voice dropping this morning to more of a croak. Perhaps a crower will be popping up soon.
So with a closed coop open run it sounds like you might recommend something like.....Sand/sweet pdz on the poo board and shavings on the floor of the coop and sand in the run? I need to figure out a way to get some sand delivered for less than a $65 delivery charge.

On the other hand in my old coop my shavings did get wet in the winter in the coop and the floor paid the price. I have no time left to play with the learning curve on linoleum. My goal is to get these guys out of my garage before 2pm today.

My daughters last day of school was yesterday and her daycare is closed so I HAD to take today off.

Sort of a stupid question, but what kind if timers are you using! I have never bought a timer for anything and am hoping to avoid an hour in Ho Depot researching the options.

can I see a picture again? Is the run on dirt? or grass? I would not use sand on that. they like dirt it cools them in the summer
Jason, first.............love your avatar!
Thanks Deb , love yours too.
This is our new farm logo
This is a picture of my Black Penedesenca pullet. Hangtown Farms(Jason) has the Cockerel. She is 7 to 8 weeks old.

penedesenca roosters start growing huge combs quick. I could tell at 2 weeks with my white empordanesa and black penedesenca
Hi, all!!!
I've missed you!! Life has been unbelievably insane. I can't go through over 1100 posts!!! LOL I hope everybody is well. Of course, I have a few questions
big_smile.png
:) I'm about to buy a bator & I need the best for less than $200. Using it mostly for quail & occasional Silkies.... I've been looking at the Hovabotor & Genesis... Farm innovator- err something... I don't know which will be the most efficient with self-turning.
Ideas?? I'm looking on Ebay, but I want the best one for the price.
Thanks!!!
many people like the genesis . I have the non digital and dislike it so go digital and should be much better than the wafer style.
I have a turner you can have. will save you some $$$

This stuff okay to use as bedding in my chicken coop?
i have a bag in my car now lol
She is cute! What age could you tell sex?
see above under the picture
