There seems to be a rash of that going on around here

A question, for anyone... After a couple days being locked in the coop, I'm letting them free range for the first time(well, the first time since living in the coop. I used to let them free range once in a while when they were still living in the indoor brooder). Their food and water is in the coop, [COLOR=FF0000]will they know to jump back in there to eat/drink when they need to[/COLOR]?

Most likely, but they'll get most of their food free ranging.

I'm more worried about the water, since it's going to be warm out today. you think they'll go to the coop to drink when they're thirsty?

The best thing is I have ten different kinds of cookie dough in the freezer. I scoop them and freeze them individually. If I want two hot cookies, I can have them within 30 minutes and the rest are just waiting in the freezer for their day! We eat leftover fair cookies for months.

Most likely, but they'll get most of their food free ranging.

They should be fine, since they were locked up in the coop with the water for a few days. To be safe, you might want to leave out a dog dish of water for them the first couple of days and locate it close to the coop.

I just hatched 8 Bresse chicks from eggs I got from Chiquita. Thanks for the great eggs!!!! These are strong, healthy chicks. I am really excited to add them to my flock.

BTW, if any one needs any roosters I have 25+ for FREE. If you need a roo, send me a PM and I will let you know what I have. They are 8+ weeks old and have been vaccinated for mareks.

Okay, my fair results this year. (I'm not trying to be "uppity", LOL, but some of you asked). I just love doing the Fair competitions. I've made great friends with many of the other exhibitors, we all sit together during judging, laugh, whisper, swap recipes, root each other on and hug goodbye until next year.

I'm good friends with the woman that runs the food program at the County jail. They train inmates to cook so they'll have a skill when they are released. They have their submissions brought in for them (obviously, LOL) and are quite excited to get ribbons in return. She said their rallying cry is "Beat Debbie" and they have a banner on the wall that says that, LOL She said when they are feeling lazy and don't want to bake, she tells them "Debbie is doing it and more things than you!" One year, the jail contingent all walked in wearing shirts that said "Beat Debbie". She had a shirt made for me that read "I'm Debbie". I have that shirt hanging in my closet and it's one of my dearest possessions.

First places - Cherry, Apricot, Lemon meringue (this won BIS for the last four years straight, but I changed my crust recipe this year for the heck of it and got dinged), banana cream
Second place - Chocolate cream
Third place - Blackberry
Confections
First place - Caramel (was considered for BIS)
Second places - Hard candy & fudge
Fiery foods
First place bread (which went on to take Best in Show)
Third place cookies

Out of my 49 entries, I only had nine that fell out of the ribbons. I also won the Overall Sweepstakes. I did well, I've done better in the past. This is my first serious baking in my new ovens, it takes awhile to get used to them.

Oh and in Preserved Foods, I only had ten entries since I was without a kitchen during the height of canning season. But I got 4 firsts, 3 seconds, 1 third and 2 no place. I won BIS dried foods.

I won't know on my Photography until I pick it back up on Monday, but I'm not expecting anything. It was just a snapshot and the competition is STIFF, like 100+ in each class.

There you go, my fair for the year, now I can take a break and next week start canning/testing recipes for next year

I just entered one little snapshot of a duckling. I don't expect it to do anything, because my hand is in the background (although with the DOF, my hand is blurred). But I enlarged it to 16 x 20 and the clarity is spot on. You can see the eyelashes and each little hair of down (it was day old). I posted the picture here earlier. I can't post pictures right now, it's not working for me or I'd post it again.

If I could get pictures to post right now, I'd post some pictures I've exhibited in years past that stood up quite well in competition. The photography classes are well entered at our fair, usually 100+ in a class.

I hear ya, the Nevada County fair photography class is visciously competitive!
