For those of you that like numbers.....I just did the math because...... well just because....I don't know why.

My first hatch in April ended up with these numbers:

Started with 45 Eggs (15 shipped, 30 purchased locally)
7 Clears left me with 38 eggs
of the 38, 26 hatched (only 4 of those 15 shipped eggs hatched)
Left me with 12 eggs that did develop but didn't make it to the finish line. Of the locally purchased 30 eggs, only 6 didn't hatch, one or two of those had been clears.)

Of the 26 that hatched there were no real health issues and they all made it. 13 were girls and 13 were boys. (unless of course a boy pops up in the next month or so)

Pretty standard hatch. I set 45 eggs expecting somewhere between 10-12 hens at the end of the day. As of today I have 13.

Funny enough I had 3 Orpington eggs from Deann (juststruttin) and there was some concern that her hens were only throwing the rooster gene. All three of the Orp eggs I had hatched and they all seem to be girls. 2 blacks and 1 blue.

EE's are mixes, so they can lay any color egg.  They are definitely not Ameraucanas or Aracaunas.

That was the joke! The Polish cannot see her because of the feathers blocking the chicken's eyes...

Anyone want a Silver Laced Polish? He's crowed and is starting to get wattles that are bright red, so he's for sure a guy.
Roos are illegal here and I really don't want neighbors to be unhappy with me because a roos crowing at the break of dawn...Especially since I rely on neighbors liking me so they don't complain whenever I have a bit of a problem foster dog.

He doesn't have a name...he's not overly friendly, but he's not at all aggressive. He mostly just keeps his distance from everyone, but yesterday he did take a treat from me for the first time ever. I think he's just scared of me because I catch him every single day to spray him with Blue Kote. It's left his feathers on his back a bit ugly and messed up, but those should eventually grow back and come in nicely, right?
He's just under 3 months old, FREE and I'll even transport him to you if you're close, or meet you half-way if you're further away. I'm in Redding but am heading to Sacramento next week. I'm just desperate to find this pretty guy a good home. :/

They look like girls.

Yeah, she's pretty adorable! She's the one with the crossbeak... both she and I will have to get used to the regular beak filing.

She is the one least afraid of my hands when I give them treats, although I feel bad because she's not very efficient actually grabbing them. She seems to be growing fine though.

Sybil is the most curious of my girls; I like her a lot! I have a hard time getting good pictures of them though... your Rose seems very interested in having her beard photographed!

Thanks for the confirmation! They came from MyPetChicken as sexed bantams, so I was sure hoping they got them right.

Next time though, I think I'll have to get kids from the local people on this thread... too traumatic with the low survival rate of shipping across country.

Still looking for a good home for my little Golden Sebright Rooster; I swear the sound of roosters crowing in the morning didn't used to bother me, but now that I'm living in a densely populated area where roosters are illegal, as soon as he peeps at 6:30 am I'm fully awake and sweating, hoping the police won't come knocking. Anyway, I posted an ad on the Free/Rehoming thread, but I thought I'd post my rooster glamour shots here too. I did find one woman who was interested when he was still a chick, but she lives in Southern California and I'm going to have to make at least a 4.5 hour drive (one-way, so 9 total) for that drop-off. Argh blargh. I also worry that my 3 remaining tiny Sebright hens would get themselves into trouble with cats or hawks without the rooster to protect them, although they are pretty good at sticking to the shrubbery, and I can consider making them a properly fenced and covered run if it becomes more of an issue than it has been.

The hatcheries are done shipping to us in Oregon until late September, then it will only be a couple of weeks.
