Right now I have 3 hens and 2 roosters. The hens 2 are sexlinks and one is a barred rock. The roosters one is a red cap the other who is the rwd cap's son is a barred rock/ red cap. Now you know who the parents are XD. I also have 10 Brahma chicks I got mail ordered last week.

At what age do I stop feeding chick food and start feeding adult layer food? They're just about 3 months old now.

Around 20 weeks, or when you run out close to there.  You don't want to start them on layer feed too early.  I now feed Flockraiser, so I don't have to switch - it's good for chicks to adults.

They're only just under 3 months, so should I say it's safe to buy another 50lb bag of chick food for my 8 chicks?

Hey NorCal folk. It's been ages since I've been able to follow this thread. Glad to see that so many of the mainstays are still here!! I guess getting up to an unknown number of chickens has got me to stop having time to "enjoy" them as much which always lead me to this thread. In fact, I think the last time I was really active on here was when I was trying to count my chickens. ha ha ha. never did finish that and I still don't know how many I have. someday, someday I will count them. :-) well HI to you all! Was there a chicken-stock this summer?! Hope you are staying cool and keep those chickens alive in the heat... which has been a struggle for me with three days over 112 in the last month!! I didn't lose any this last one, so I think I got the system down finally!!! :-) Happy sunday, at least for a few more minutes!

Hi Jeff, good to see you!

Okay, the first candling report.

Last night I candled the first two macaw eggs I put in the incubator. They were at day five. The second egg I was given still appears clear

, but the first egg is nicely veined!!!

That is still a long way away from being hatched, but I can't tell you how excited I was. The third egg was only at day two, so I'll candle it in a few days. I might actually have to take the time to chart weight on these eggs

Wonderful news on the macaw eggs Deb! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I was wondering if Siskiyou county had poultry at the fair, should have posted earlier since Jeff checked in. Up here they do poultry earlier in the year and the only birds at the fair are meat birds, not much to look at with them.

Oh boy, another pickle making day today, forecast says 101° with humidity moving in. At least we aren't all smoky from the fires.

That is so cool! I hope they all develop for you.

Hi ya'll,
I live in pilot hill near cool. I was wondering about the chicken/farm animal swap in Roseville. How do I find out about these things? I would love to get some more chickens since I have lost 10 in the last couple of months to predators. Thankfully, we had a trapper come and captured a bobcat, skunk, and hawk that were taking my girls. Anyway, long story short: I would live to get a blue copper Maran or two and a laced wydonette. If any one in the foothills wants to get rid of some chickens.
Welcome to the thread! That's a lot of predators

So I have a bunch of little roo's crowing. I though I'd see if any of you might want a couple of the pretty ones before they are turned into chicken noodle soup. I have a little Golden Campine, and a bantam BLRW (he's black laced red). The campine is from the feed store, and the BLRW is from eggs that I hatched from a breeder (Uncle Bee's Birds) in Ohio. I'll try to post a pic later. I know there are a ton of roo's right now looking for a home, but if you need one of these PM me.
