Howdy NorCalies. I have a small suburban flock: 1 black cochin banty and the 3 sisters (very matchy matchy ... trying to research what they are...big, blond, stripy golden necks & black tails). This is my second flock, and came together as a 'rescue' group. The banty goes broody big-time, and I want to capitalize on this! I am hoping to find someone with good heritage meat bird (Delewares?) eggs for sale. Small space, small hen, so only about 5-6 eggs. Does anybody in the neighborhood have a supply of such eggs that would be available in early September? Presuming she goes broody on my schedule of course!

If you look back a few posts, post #28035 I have some Delaware pullets available. That would save you having to hatch eggs and they will be laying eggs sooner. I have cockerels, too, if you want to try the meat.

Thanks for the offer CVChick, but I've recently had a bad experience with integrating. Small space & little coop. I'm counting on the hen to integrate the chicks. Am I delusional about this working?

Looks like silver, buff and dark brahmas. Cuties, congrats!

You need some more hens or those poor girls are going to be overmated.

Yep.

Silver hmm that's interesting news . I'll post pictures when they get older.

The 3 hens are with the red cap. The other rooster is separated from them. But I do need to pick who to keep. Cannot keep both. Its a hard choice :(

rain rain, go..
NO WAIT HERE NOW NAIO!!!

Welcome new people!

I have Marans eggs, and they are the best tasting bird I have had, but i'm a bit far from you in San Jose.

I have turned into a do it yourself protien fanatic this year with marans, breese, quail and soon Muscovy ducks! IN fact I processed the extra James MArie boys yesterday all By myself. MArio was surprised by my actual culling method, but I have read at UC davis site that i you can get them right at the top of the spine they pass out instantly and feel no pain. So that is the new plan. It seemed to work no reactions on the head. ( sorry if I'm too graphic new people)

We ate the quail that evening with nothing but salt and pepper, and it was better then it was with soaking, i was surprised!
I also got a double youlker quail egg that was TWENTY ONE GRAMS! That is a third of the size of a muscovy egg! So excited. I set the new girls eggs to check fertility they are big. The manchurians lay ery odd shaped eggs, I hope they hatch ok.

I agree. I've processed two so far (well, one was the Secret Santa OE I got from you, boy of course). Even when they are a bit older they have been tender and tasty.

They've beat all the other breeds I've done. I'm getting ready to process my extra black bresse boy.
