California - Northern

welcome to the new folks.

we had a pretty neat Thunderstorm last night. Of course my dog was freaking out the whole time so I was up too.
I think it was east of us some as I did not hear it rain. it was dry this morning but you could smell the rain in the air

Somehow it missed our neck of the woods in GV.

Pretty bummed!

i don't know that it is, it looks like the little berries are growing in clusters, and i don't think deadly nightshade does? also the leaves don't look the right shape, they look almost more like something in the mint family. do you have a clearer photograph?

actually, looking closer (and thinking about something that "just pops up" in the garden), could it be potatoes? if you google "potato plant berry" & look at the images, they look a lot like your plant there...

I am pretty sure it is this variety http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solanum_nigrum .

I agree, a clearer photo of the leaves and upright plant would help.

Yes that is what i ordered Light, Buff, and Dark only thing is I don't know which are what. I am guessing the brown ones are Buff and teh whitish ones are Light But which ones are the Dark ones?

We have a light Brahma and she is the sweetest, cutest little big chicken EVER! She likes to cuddle!

Oops missed part of my multi quote.

Do you live in rough and ready?? I lived there for 2 years as a girl one of my fantasy places to move back to. Does it get real internet yet?

No, we are house-sitting for another chicken family who also has goats and an adorable baby llama named, Samson. We technically live in Nevada City, but geographically we're in between Rough and Ready and Grass Valley, but I grew up in Penn Valley. So, I'm a gold country kiddo. Yeah! They have amazing wifi! I don't get internet at home down our road even though it's only like 6 miles from here, but there has been a crew working on installing fiber optic cable. The cable is installed and it's half way back to Auburn now, but I don't know when AT&T is gonna get off their butts and run it down the driveways and off-shoot roads.

the leaves don't look right, though -- whereas potatoes (also in the nightshade family, and can easily sprout from any that get into the compost bin etc) look closer:

Solanum Nigrum grows as a weed in California so could potentially pop up anywhere.
The berries just seem too close together and too small to be a potato berry to me. The leaves seem right for the variety of nightshade I have seen growing as a weed here in Sonoma County.
The flower shown in the close up pic looks very much like these. Although I know most nightshades have flowers that are very similar (including potatoes and tomatoes)

Jason, you were surrounded.  The thunder/lightening went on here from 11-2 and quite close.  I had four dogs barking and upset.  The great dane stayed pressed against my leg (she had to come and help me brush my teeth by pressing to my kneecaps in front of the sink - quite a lean to spit).

It rained from about 12-1:30, lightly at first but a decent soak in the end.  I was thinking, yay, I don't have to water the potted plants on the deck tomorrow.

And Jason is the one to ask on the plant ID.

That storm was amazing! It moved westward over my property. The flashes lit up the yard, making all the Cayugas visible in short bursts of bright light. There is evidence of some rain having fallen... Although I was up quite late waiting for it, I never saw it rain. The dogs were agitated, and the younger birds in the house were nervous.

Out in the coop, Carl crowed after particularly loud booms. I counted seconds between flashes and booms, proving to myself the strikes were acrually miles and miles away.
