I have some eggs hatching!!! I have one BCM and one Button Quail (I didn't think any of these guys were going to hatch). I took out the two of them, because I've read button quail can only go 12 hours without food/water. They are hanging out in the brooder together. I'm wondering if the Marans might be mixed with something. I looked it up, and I can't find any BCM chicks that are white.

*They are napping, not dead.

They so look dead here and that looks like Gigantor the killer chick.
Yeah that sounds like real fun. :th
Well at least to me.... A game of catch the nardies seemed amusing. Then again I don't have a pair of my own so I don't have the sentimental attachment to them men do.

Yes, that is not a BCM, wrong color and no leg feathers. What color was the egg?

This is a BCM.

Wheaten Marans look like that--until the feathers come out. There should be some feathers--white on the legs. I am concerned by the number of toes though. Either that is not any type of Marans or the Breeder bought into the 10 days to separate the Rooster before collecting the eggs.

A yellow chick with 5 toes?

Only 4 toes, but no feathering on the legs. I'm thinking the hen that laid the eggs must have had an illicit affaire with another rooster. All the eggs are very dark brown. I have 4 more that should be hatching any time now. I wonder what the others will look like.

It does look like a marans egg, although not super dark for a BC. Does the breeder have other varieties? It is possible to get the occasional clean legged bird, although not desirable here in the US.
