They were chicks and the turkeys got into their pen and decided to stomp them!Ewww... your turkeys killed the chickens? On purpose? Another reason for me to avoid turkeys.![]()
lost another pullet to some sort of predator this morning, while they were out free-ranging first thing in the morning -- there's a pile of greyish feathers in my garden and an isbar missing. after losing an isbar/marans cross last week. i may have to stop letting them free-range for a while.
and that leaves me with only a trio of isbars, plus one isbar/marans. may have to get some more hatching eggs...
That is sad news!![]()
Here in Woodland I have to worry about Urban Predators:
So far the Raccoons have not found us here. We don't have a green way that starts at a creek like Davis. Parts of Davis have had Coyotes and foxes as well as possums and raccoons deep into town.
I am paying close attention though so that when I move to the Country I will know how to set things up.
Chiqita has a Bobcat that comes by in the Fall. They do like to get them in the morning.it IS sad, she was a sweet one -- and frustrating, that after over a year with no losses to predators, i have two in a week. both early-ish morning but the sun was up. i'm not quite sure what to do at this point -- i know SOME predator loss in such an edge-of-the-wild place must be expected (as there are hawks, eagles, bobcats, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, and skunks around), but unsure how to balance the pros of free-ranging with the cons of possible losses...
