The Ameraucana thread can be brutal at times, but I got some great feedback from Jean (Pips&Peeps) today on some pictures I posted of one of my blue wheaten Ameraucana pullets. My hard work has finally paid off. She said she liked the pullet and that I should show her! Jean is a tough, so that is saying a lot!!

I originally bought my first W/BW Ameraucana hatching eggs from Jean. I then bought shipped W/BW Ameraucana chicks from Paul Smith. I culled down to just the best, which left me with (believe it or not) 2 Paul Smith hens and a wheaten rooster from Jean's eggs. I bred these together and produced a BW rooster, which I bred back to my 2 hens. I sold the wheaten rooster back to Jean. This pullet (I hatced out 9 pullets this year) is out of the wheaten's BW son x my 2 pick hens. You sure have to produce a lot of birds and cull heavy to achieve your goal!

Yes, you have to cull hard!

I will be doing this with the EO Maraduna Basque hens next Spring.

I hatched 15 Skyline eggs and picked the two best Roosters and kept the three best hens. I was able to hatch about 90 chicks from the second best Rooster that became the best. This year I hatched a Rooster from Megan's Spanish Flock that is Awesome! He will be the Breeder to the best 4 pullets out of the roughly 40 pullets that are in Winters.

Awesome Stuff!

It is a lot of fun and very satisfying when you get it right!

I would like to see pictures of your best EO Maraduna Basgue with a critique on what their good qualities are. I like learning all I can about the different breeds

That's what I would do if I saw a big Brahma roo coming at me!

This is the Rooster that I hatched from Megan's flock. He looks awesome so far!

This one has nice Barring but the comb is a bit off. I will be interesting to see what the chicks look like.

This one was my Broody last Winter.

These two look like twins. They have the correct colored legs and feet and the correct color on the Body. The Barring is needed on the Hens to make the Roosters look correct.

This is one of my Three best Hens.

I do not have a picture of Chema, the Rooster I used. This boy is Megans Rooster and he is very nice! The tail is correct and has the barring. Most Roosters in the US have a white sickle feather which is a Disqualifier under the Spanish Standard.
