Hi guys!! I haven't been on in a while (like 700 posts behind). 2 of the eggs from my chickens hatched. They were way early. I wasn't expecting them until tonight, but one hatched Thursday afternoon, and the other one on Friday morning. I don't know what's up with that. I found them hidden in the garden, so maybe the started developing because it been hot outside.

. Super cute and healthy chicks. They both have 5 toes, and furry little legs. I have 2 more of them set to hatch on Thursday, and another 3 on Saturday. I put them with one of my broodies, because I'm running out of room, and when I tried to put them with the 3 week old chicks, and quail, the quail started attacking them. Mom seems to be happy with them.

Congratulations! What a nice addition to your family.

My pullets have adopted a mascot! I picked a huge tomato worm this morning and carried him to the chicks in a grape leaf. There was much excitement and carrying on, with not a bit of the grape leaf left (they devour them!). I was just out to check on them and see ole tomato worm moving around the run, totally ignored by the girls. A month ago I gave them a small tomato worm and they went crazy and ate it fast. At 21 weeks, they surely can handle this green guy. They normally snarf anything getting in their run. The worm would have to escape and make it across the yard to get back to the tomato plants, which is highly unlikely. Odd chooks!

It is so cloudy here in Sacramento that the chickens are confused and keep checking out the coop, but so far haven't settled down on their roost. My landscape lighting is on. Odd weather.

My husband and son are in horde leaving Black Rock City today. Attendance in mid 60K range, making it the second largest city in NV this past week. Early this afternoon there was an announcement that rain and thunderstorms were on the way, and urged everyone to pack up and leave. DH said there were thousands breaking camp at the same time. The exodus is controlled by only letting 300 vehicles and hour on to the road out. DH and DS only had to wait 4 hours to get to pavement. They've gone the past three years and already agreed this would be their last (at least for a while). Too quiet here this week with me and the dogs, cat, chicks, and goldfish. I'm looking forward to the playa dust decontamination - takes lots of cleaning before anything they took with them can be put away.

No eggs to date from my 3. Perhaps they are waiting for Labor Day?! Wishing everyone a good holiday tomorrow.

Lewey is adorable! I'm surprised that Anakin wasn't waiting at your door when you brought Lewey home. I'll continue to think positive thoughts for Anakin, our tortiose was missing for a full month before we found him in the blackberries. Pancake is included in the safe return wishes also!

Looks like a great Mom, the contrast with the chicks is so cute Lizanne. Is she a sexlink? None of mine have shown any interest on setting.

I knew the skunks were around from all the digging along the fencing of the coops. I hope my luck continues, I haven't lost any to them, if I don't close the people doors they could get in. They may have been getting in since my egg count has gone down some lately, I blamed it on day length.

I can't imagine being out on a wild fire, takes a big set of brass one IMO. From the pictures they are fortunate to have a view of the fire. Many of our fires up here had such bad visability they couldn't fight them, If it was bad enought to keep the helocopters on the ground the fire crews had no business out there. Everyone stay safe!
