Me too. From 3:30 to 4:00 it went from 170 acres to 350 acres. They are evacuating some of the homes in the area. We can see the smoke and smell it here in Antioch.
We were in Napa this afternoon and could see Diablo smoke there to the south east. Lots of white smoke. But we could also see a smaller but significant black smoke to the west of Napa, so something fairly close is also burning. Hopefully evacuations go smoothly.
Light brown. Perfectly formed. About 2/3 size of regular egg. I'm thinking this must be from my bantam Cochin. Also ready to lay are my CL and Norwegian. All 3 pullets are about 22 weeks old.
I was TOO excited when I found this egg this morning in the nest box!
Here's the same egg where it landed after I bumped the egg and accidentally shelled it while giving the pullets a celebratory treat.
In the future, I vow to carefully carry the egg inside and put it in a carton before celebrating. My reputation as a bit of a klutz is well earned.
We have indoor cats that only go outside when they need to use "natures litter box" and are inside otherwise. I don't think I could manage a litter box... The smell...

You didn't really want to eat that egg anyway...... Homegrown eggs are overrated. Right??????
JK!! I want my darn eggs. My girls are 19 weeks this weekend and their wattles are starting to wattle finally. I am wondering if my move when they are 22 weeks old will disrupt the whole cycle. Probably.
After much rumination, I believe I have settled on a name for the new property (21 days of escrow left). It needs to be something that will match well with the name for my current place, which is Olmstead Homestead, AND maybe reflect its ....purpose.... Egg sales and a haven for my roosters.
Because i am buying it to have a neighbor-complaint-free rooster zone, I started with "Rooster Haven" and then "Roosters' Roost" but selling eggs from there might be sorta odd. :/ Flat-landers might think I was selling rooster eggs, or sumpin' stoopid. I nixed "Rooster Acres" for the same reason.
The creek is seasonal; it's dry now, but apparently really flows during the wet months of the year. "Dry Creek Acres" wasn't totally suitable. Maybe "Critter Creek Farm." Nah.... But I did like that one for awhile. "Many Branches Ranch" was also a possibility.
I like the name! I think it's great when people name their houses/property.
It took us at least six months to name our house. We bought the house as tenants-in-common as the start of a community. The name we finally settled on, "Alpine Butterfly Lodge", reflects that... the alpine butterfly knot is a knot that can be tied in the middle of a rope, and is often used to link mountaineers together so if one slips the others can catch them. Seemed fitting for an intentional community. Besides, who doesn't like butterflies?
I have seen four different numbers for tomorrows high temperature.
Weather Underground says it will be 106. Intellicast says it will be 102. Accuweather says it will be 98.
I am going to have the misters come on tomorrow just to be sure. I installed a second string and tightened up the sun screen for the layer yard. I am getting great mist coverage now!
It's crazy hot. Great idea for the misters. I have my sprinkers on timers in the runs to keep it damp, but I like the mister idea better. Should have got some at home depot today when I was there.
