Male eggs are hardier so I'm not surprised. I expect 60-70 boys on shipped eggs that hatch under 60%.Well got my first CCL egg today so that's the good news....the bad news is I'm thinking I got 4/6 cockerels of jubilees, Same with the gold laced Orpingtons, And the same with my Partridge Brahmas!! What are the odds of that?! Lol
his comb has been *gigantic* since he was a tot -- the other two boys who are the same age (one isbar, one birchen marans) are deeply jealous.
i might end up having to find a way to keep him -- i currently have three pens, and am contemplating one more addition that would be two small side-by-side pens (4x8') added on to the end of the two 8x8 pens, that could be used for breeding or broodies or whatever -- but i don't want to build more pens beyond that. fortunately Harold, Blue the Isbar, and Jack the birchen marans have all grown up together and (so far!) get along fine -- they're all around 20 weeks old, and so may start to get along less well as they really start revving up the testosterone? but conceivably i could keep two in one pen, one each in the other two.
but that means getting rid of my current roo, Max the SFH, who is a total gentleman -- but isn't a breed i want to focus on. so, i'm conflicted on boy-management -- although needn't make any decisions yet...

Really? They're stronger? Well no wonder! Lolhis comb has been *gigantic* since he was a tot -- the other two boys who are the same age (one isbar, one birchen marans) are deeply jealous.at 3-4 weeks
8-10 weeks? [/quote Such a manly boy! The Amelia's will give you guaranteed olive eggers ( lighter however) when bread back to him and be autosexing. And 75 % of them will have double blue genes and breed true. I'd love to see the eggs of a double Amelia!
Chicken math strikes again!!!i might end up having to find a way to keep him -- i currently have three pens, and am contemplating one more addition
Here's a wartime song to serenade to your girls! (warning, the music intro is almost a minute long)
