Yes, but we are a small group of volunteers. Please report any posts that you believe break the rules.

we homeschool and it was part of social studies for the day. That, and she was being a little spoiled all afternoon so it was appropriate
Ron is it that they lay five eggs a month? or they only lay 60 eggs per cycle?Green Fire Farms is selling Ayam Cemani chickens now. They are very expensive and there is also an person from Florida that has some. She is selling them on ebay. The chicks that hatched from a $1400 hatching egg auction hatched out looking like Marans.
There have been issues between the three or so breeders with them in the US and Green Fire. There have also been mis communications with breeders that have them in Indonesia. There are a lot of passionate folks on that thread.
The pure ones are supposed to lay 60 eggs a year, so that would be 5 egg a month. The cemani coming to the US look like a version from Norway or Sweden--they are crossed and likely lay more eggs than 60 per year.(Shh, do not post that on the Cemani thread...)

X2 ... I'm so sorry that both of you have had to go through this, knowing how much your chickens mean to you. Chiquita, you need HOTwire.
I notice lots of people are calling it different things. I enjoyed it. It was nice to see Debi - who I did recognize- and I am so grateful to Daphne, who helped me haul 12 squawking, flapping, not cage trained chickens from the truck to the cages and back again. I'm even more in awe of Deb now, since she shows so many birds at once.![]()

Ya I'm wondering if its just that the cycle is just 60 eggs and the rest of the year they just hang out haha. I was also wondering how old they are when they start to lay?I wonder that too. The average says 60 per year. That may very will be in the Spring and no eggs late summer to winter.

From what I've read (I've been researching the breed for several years now), they lay around 20 eggs per cycle, then take off 4-6 weeks, then lay another 20 eggs for a total of around 3 lay cycles per year.
Truly an "ornamental" breed in the production department, they are also a lightweight game type bird.
If you are looking for a black breed of a higher production and meatier body type, go for a Black Swedish Hen. Equally rare in this country.
And both, black to the bones........as they say.
