Great job to all that have taken off the pounds and have kept them off! I was heavy when I graduated from HS but have been able to keep weight pretty even for the last 35 years, DH is another story.

Wish me luck, I'm off to visit Adult foster homes this afternoon for my MIL. Her current home set some pretty high standards so finding a new one is proving tough. If she only had the willpower to stay away from salt and to drink her water this job would be so much easier.

Oh man I know what you mean! My grandma move in with my parents about a year ago. Her favorite things are soda and corn dogs, oh ya and jelly beans haha

The worst part is that one of her daughters sends her a "care package" from Costco or Harry & Davids. Big containers of salt & sugar and MIL sits and eats them all day long.

Oh my, well my Gma is going to be 89 on Christmas so we kind of just let her do her thing. During the day my dad is in and out of the house but gets her breakfast, coffee and then lunch, but dinner is always a balanced meal and of course her soda goes with that haha. For a while we were trying to control her junk food intake but that just resulted in her searching for it and making huge messes in the kitchen

So sorry to those of you who lost chickens last night.

We spent 3 days in the Petaluma/Santa Rosa area and I was concerned about my chickens. My 22 yr old son was staying at our house in exchange for chicken duties. I called him every morning to remind him to get up and let the chickens out. And I had my adult daughter come over in the evening to make sure the coops were closed up. All chickens survived!

Sandy, Monet and I missed you at the Expo! We stayed with friends in a larger cabin at the KOA. It was not as nice as the one we stayed in last year. Monet and I are hoping to tent camp next year like we did 2 years ago. I would love to meet you for lunch if we can coordinate our schedules!

Agree 100%! My FIL lived with us up until the last few months of a full life. He craved sweets, loved his bacon, and could not go without his daily baked goods fix. The last few months at home he fell one time too many due to being noncompliant with his walker "That THING is going to impail me!" The social worker and therapists evaluated him during a hospitalization and told us he needed 24/7 care. They recommended placement in a licensed residential board and care. We picked one with hospice option so he would not have to endure a move when he declined. That paid off when he passed away 7 months later at the ripe old age of 97. I didn't realize how much we would miss him being here at home, but the relief from daily responsibility was a blessing. We could spend those last few months being his pals again instead of the enforcers. My heart goes out to all who have tough decisions to make. How wonderful you all are actively engaged in the welfare of your elders. Great examples to set for subsequent generations. Hopefully will pay dividends should we live into dependency years.

I'm delighted my bantam Cochin is producing an egg every other day. 3 so far. They are getting a little more brown color. She was behind my Cream Legbar and Norwegian Jaerhon in comb and waddle development. Neither bigger girl had laid an egg, yet. I'm off again Sunday-Wednesday to Santa Cruz to babysit my nearly 2 year old granddaughter. Maybe my slackers could hold off until I return, hehe. (They are at 23 week mark).

((((((((((((((((((((((((Laura and Linda))))))))))))))))))))) sorry you lost your girls :(

My grandmother used to work in a sausage factory when she was young. They would clean out the "casing" and process them for whatever sausage they were making. Apparently they took a few home because during after work hours they were used as a condom! Indirectly that is part of the reason I am here today. They don't work very well as a contraceptive device.

I am going down to see my mother tomorrow in LA. She is in a locked facility down there and we are trying to get her up here with us, but it hasn't been an easy road. Her life in this facility is not very pleasant and she does have some mental issues that arose very late in life. My family and I are of the opinion she can have whatever her hearts desire. She isn't going to get better and where she lives isn't a place that one would want to live voluntarily. If eating chocolate and Pringles and Diet Coke are what she wants then she can have them.

Now I am sure if she was still a functioning member of society and our family I would think differently, but as it is, I am happy to do whatever brings her a little bit of joy.
