I have had cats and the neighbors have cats - and I have rats.  BIG rats.  Norweign Roof Rats that no cat would dare mess with - unless it was a mane coon cat or another huge hunter cat. I had a Siamese who used to kill and eat them - but that was years ago and she was taught how to kill them.  My dog will kill them if she can catch them - but she has to shake the big ones to kill them before they bite her.  Regular puddy cats run for the hills when these things come out - I had one I caught by the face in the big tomcat rat traps and when I went to dispose of it my mother saw it from a distance and wanted to know what happened to that poor kitty... it was probably 18" long (without the tail) and I would guess about 2 lbs... :ep

If you have warf rats you will need to get a ratter dog - or a really big cat... those things are nasty too and will gang up and kill cats.
Omg this is terrible lol I hope I don't have nightmares haha! Yes Ron maybe a dog, then!

not to brag but, my cat henry has dispatched with quite a number of Rattus norvegicus -- he not only kills them but eats them, except for the stomach and tail, and they're about half his size. he MUST have a wooden leg, i don't know where he puts it all...

moral of the story: you need a better cat.

Wow this is so disturbing on many levels.

Yes I do! They are very disappointing...Broccoli was a good Mouser but she was only a bit bigger than the rats. The Big Boy--he weighs 22 or so pounds--is a klutz outside.

The quail STINK to high heaven. What did I get myself into!?! But these serama babies! Oh my I am having so much fun. Now to get power to the coops so I can keep them above 20 degrees med winter!

Our Eugene has been eating like a pig all summer. Birds, rabbit larger than him, squirrel , voles ( YEAH!!) but today we found three vole holes right by the front door. hello! Too fat to watch the front door!!!!!

Ok, weirdest thing ever!

I had posted an add on Craigslist to sell about 11 barnyard mix chicks, & I went to meet the family buying them tonight.

I recognized them...

They're my boyfriends family I've met multiple times!!!

Crazy coincidence, right?!?!

If you have a cat that will kill those roof rats, I would like one. None of the ones I have had and none of the ones my neighbors have - and not one of the tomcats or wild cats that wander all over the back acres and eat anything else that moves will even try and catch these. Even the smaller ones are given a wide berth - its the same meanness in a smaller package... Unless they are trained on how to kill them, and it has to be first pounce - you do NOT play with these - the cats leave them alone.

Our cat is not interested in catching anything. At ripe age of 17, he has never killed a much as a fly. Zero interest in our chicks. Our yard is vermin free thanks to our little 16 pound terrier mix mut, Radar. A few years ago he dug under our shed. In the course of 3 days he eradicated a family of rats. No mauling, just shook and broke their necks. Since then no more problems with rodents. Racoons are another story. Fortunately they drop by when the dogs are bedde down inside. Our girls are safe in their hardware cloth fortress with no signs of entry to date ( crossng fingers). Don't know what makes some cats and dogs great ratters while others don't show any intersest. Glad our little dog is on duty! Ugh, this new iPhone OS seems clunky on this site!
