Since we've only got 1 male and 3 females ours are pretty quiet. I would like to add a couple more girls. 1 female has taken to hiding inside. The girls aren't looking to beat up, just missing a few feathers but I think they would be happier if he spread his affections around more.

What kind of quail do you have? I read that Bobwhites are monogamous. I only have 3 females left and I was just planning on keeping 2 males. That leaves 7 to process and that's enough for 1 meal for the 3 of us.

Ok, I normally don't post jokes or videos, but this got me laughing! Funny car/ chicken commercial.

Since cots were rumored to be calmer that's what we went with, although we did happen on to some Valley quail the day we went to pick them up. We got the sexed calmer birds instead.

Mary and I were worried about her, so Mary have her a call a couple weeks ago. She is doing okay, still trying to cut down on her flock.

i should check in with her to see if she has extra isbars she wants to find homes for... since i didn't manage to hatch more than one!

I was reminded of the Coci problems at your place. I found some information about treating bad cased of it.

from a book Called The Back Yard Flock by Mike Strecker

all chicks should be treated. There is 9 species of this disease and ONLY 2 that have blood in the stool. Critical time is when chicks are between 4-16wks. of age.
chicks need to be treated when they are 3-4wks of age. CORID POWDER....1TSP. PER GALLON FOR 5 DAYS and then another 5 days at 1/2 tps per gallon.
and to repeat it every 3wks if they have symptoms until they reach 9mos. of age. After this its a good idea to put it once a week in there water.

The quote had a different medication that was repeated after the corid but I think the above would work.

My friend is planning on processing turkeys in November.  We will probably have some chickens to do then, also.  The first of our Bresse should be ready by then.  I'll post the date when it gets closer.  I like processing with them because her husband does the killing.
Please let me know. Very interested. Do I bring my own or purchase one to do?

thanks Ron -- i definitely keep the Corid powder on hand & put in the water at the slightest sign of droopiness... all's well so far.
