OK, all you folks with much more knowledge than me, I've got a d'anver hen that is acting off. She usually the first to meet me in the morning but she's hanging back and hunched up. She's loosing weight and hiding under the ramp. I gave her mealworms, grit, oyster shell, crumbles, and she rejected them all until I gave her a cucumber. I started them all on corid yesterday, anything else I should be doing?

Hi everyone! Just found this thread. I grew up in Sactown, now in Oakland. Got my first chicks in June, and I'm hooked. They're a flock of 5 birds: welsummer, orpington, basque, swedish flower, and cream legbar, all from juststruttin.

Here they are at about 12-13 weeks. So far, it looks like I have all girls!

And here they are in their run, which encloses this crazy sideways acacia tree they like to walk on. This tree is awesome -- it drops seeds they like to eat and seed pods which become more litter!

Can't wait for that first egg... Anyhow, hi everyone!

Having a lot of knowledge has never stopped me!

How old is she? The newsletter I posted yesterday had information about Black Head, which is similar to coci.

There were symptoms listed in the article. UCD says they have been seeing more Black Head cases lately. I would keep up with the corid and see how she does.

You are funny! I'm in the Central Valley. Hmm, maybe that qualifies as the Mason Dixon Line of CA! Technically we are about 2 hrs north of the absolute middle. You know where the Redwood Tree and Palm Tree are on Hywy 99?

Regarding chickens, we have have several rare breeds. I'm looking for more Dark Brahma's. I only have one pullet and a very randy rooster. I'd like to take the pressure off of her. Right now they are separated but eventually I want to breed them. They are very hard to find. Do you happen to know of any in your area?

Hi! Welcome!

Almost all of my chickens this time around came from Deann at Just Struttin' too. All of them except my two Wheaten Ameraucana's. They are all 21 weeks old and I am patiently waiting for them to lay. However, just moving them to a new coop and stressing them out may have delayed the process. I can tell they are not yet super comfortable with their new surroundings. I hatched them from eggs though so I had 13 boys to rehome and ended up with no CL's and no DLBB's that I wanted. Oh well there is always next spring.

Collect it in the morning. They only wanted a little bit--something like 10Grams. A large egg is 57G, so not much at all.

Fresh is better. I would pack it into a little box with an ice pack.

Cheers!

A box? really? I was just going to stick in a fed ex envelope.... You can still see worms even in flat poo right?

Everyone is welcome in this thread it seems. No matter what part of CA, or Oregon you are from.

Best thread there is and no one is mean to you for asking the same question over and over as I sometimes do.

You have very nice pullets!

Yes they can see them. They use a Microsope.

An Envelope will work too. It will get to them quick enough and it is not too hot weather wise so you likely do not need the ice pack.

papa brooder has Brahmas but he is in Redding. He does ship hatching eggs and often delivers to Sacramento.

I do not know if he has dark ones.
