All but one vein is dried up. The vein that isn't dried up is red but very skinny compared to what it was. I'm sorry for so many questions, this chick and I have already been through a lot and I don't want to loose it!

it isn't trying to chip at the shell. Occasionally it looks like its biting it. I don't think I can do anything. I am probably going to have to assist the hatch. I am nervous. I only see one vein in the top and it is pretty thin but pink. The shell has been open for about 36 hr and had an internal pip for about 13 hrs. It is breathing but Im worried its been open too long and going into distress. It isn't peeping like it was.

It probably is time to start getting the chick out. Go slowly and carefully. Have Q tips and warm water ready to moisten places where the membrane may be sticking. Watch for blood--a bit is ok though. Remember, you can put the chick back in if needed.

Good luck! Just pretend you are pealing a hard boiled egg--without bashing the shell though....

lol thank you!

I have studied Sally Sunshine's when to assist. She told me to use ointment to moisten the membrane which I did that as well as a little water with a q-tip but not too close to the beak. I can see the main vein still but not as prominently as it was. When I can't see any veins any more I will be back asking questions I'm sure ;-) She internally piped about 12 hrs ago.

Great idea about the ointment. I am going to remember that one.
