My mama chicken has gone broody yet AGAIN, I swear for the 10th time this year lol. Too bad my Seramas aren't laying yet.

What is with all this fall broodiness??? I moved Beakface and brood to their "day yard" Went home at lunch to check on them and they are fine and seem to be enjoying the liberty...I am enjoying the safety and the lack of congestion in the nest boxes. She was brooding in the favorite box.

We don't have a coop in that yard yet. Anything wrong with putting a dog crate in there? The yard is really secure as far as our predators go...raptors, raccoons, skunks and possums. I am going to do my first coop build with Tom's help and can shuttle the little family back and forth at bed time and in the morning for awhile if you think that's better but I really would like her out of the big yard until the babies are weaned.

The pattern of broodiness is why it is hard to hatch for yourself without an incubator. Imagine trying to let a Broody hatch in the snow country at this time of year.

They are Jungle Fowl--They lay eggs in the spring and then hatch them in the Fall.

I'm wondering if it would be wrong for her to hatch eggs in November lol....guess I'd have to take the chicks inside?
They will be fine in Modesto. Mom will keep them warm.

I am watching an auction for rare eggs today.

What breed?

I am looking at an auction for Bielefelder hatching eggs. I want to see how much the sell for.

I may want them someday.

I just saw this link from Kings Feed on FB this morning. King Feed's formulation director claims that after 7 days of feeding your chickens GMO free feed, their eggs will be GMO free.

I enjoy a good scientific read and would like to find a study that supports this statement. I'm the kind of person who asks, "Who is making this statement and where is the data to support their claim?"
That is very interesting. Now that everyone spouts and repost things without verifying its legitimacy, I find myself looking for supporting evidence of statements too.

I know that I gave the girls the King Feed Freedom pellets on Sunday and I had to fill it back up the next day. They were NOT eating the Organic from Costco like that. I just don't think it is a quality feed thing. I think it may have to do with taste......? I am not sure but I can say they like it better.

My chickens have been eating King Feed Freedom Layer for more than 6 days, so the eggs from my flock are GMO Free!

I Hard boiled some eggs tonight and they are very tasty--with no Soy or corn. And GMO Free...
