California - Northern

I narrowed my cockerels down to 2 plus I have a few more younger boys. But most of the pullets started laying a few weeks ago and I'm not even sure how many we have in addition to my two hens who are the mothers of all of these young ones. I need to spend some time at the farm watching them and choosing the best hens to go into breeding pens with the boys.
My Bresse are about 4 weeks now. At first I thought I had 1 girl and 4 boys, now perhaps 1 boy and 4 girls, lol. It's hard to tell, a bit early. But I really want to know what I got. I just sit and stare and them all for like 10 minutes trying to figure it out.

What is a Pita Pinta? The first time I saw the term I did a double take because it sounded like an Andalusian recipe. B^)
This is a Cockerel.

Juvenile chicks

A bit older

Older pullet with a Basque Hen

Recently hatched chicks.

They come from the Asturia region of Spain and are also called Asturian Paints.

Those sound great!
@ronott1 - are you feeling the Pita Pintas are a better meat bird than the Bresse? Just curious
They grow as fast as the Bresse and have a more traditional skin. They also lay extra large light brown eggs. One of the eggs from this hatch is the biggest I have ever hatched. It was bigger than the double yolked Delaware egg.

They are by far the best Dual Purpose breed I have had. The Bresse are a close second and are surprisingly good layers of Large eggs.

What do you mean when you say they have a more traditional skin? Do you mean the color? Color traditions vary by country, with North Americans preferring yellow skin, and Brits and apparently Europeans preferring white skin.

What is their temperament like? Are they flighty and human avoidant like most of the Mediterranean breeds? They look to heavy to fly, which is good where I live.
