California - Northern

I cleaned out the tractor brooder and let the Basque hen and Pita Pintas out. The Pita Pintas are at Point of Lay. One of them decided to practice laying eggs in the oddest place.

Check out the color pattern on the bottom fluff. The white tipped feathers are very neat to see.

Here are a couple of pictures from the front

And a couple of pictures of my EO marraduna Basque hen. They all hatched togegher.

Okay! So first off, happy holidays, merry Christmas, whatever the heck you celebrate I hope it's a good one!

Now here's something interesting that has happened, wondering if you guys might be able to offer up an explanation.

My flock consists of 3 Andalusians(one blue, not yet laying, one back who is laying, and one splash who is laying), 2 Light Brahmas, and two Speckled Sussex.
Just under a week ago I got a brown egg, my first ever brown egg. After it was washed off a few days later a bunch of speckles appeared on it, and the next two eggs were speckled(speckles showed before being washed). Considering my flock, one would assume it was the Speckled Sussex laying these eggs, especially considering the fact that they both squat for me, especially Penny who has recently been squatting just when I walk by her!

Today when I went out to look in the best box for eggs, I saw one of my Light Brahmas sitting in there, arranging the nesting materials like the chickens like to do before they lay. I let her be and then went to shower, get dressed, ready for the day... About an hour later I went back out to see if she had laid her first egg(because I had been assuming my speckled brown eggs were from a SS) only to find a speckled egg in the nest box.

Do Light Brahma's ever lay speckled eggs? Or was Charlotte maybe just checking out the nest box & then a SS went and laid after she left it?

Considering this is only my 4th? speckled egg I'd say it is pretty big! Here it is next to one of the Splash Andalusian's eggs.

that is a nice egg!

It is probably from the Brahma-Brown egg layers will often have speckles on them.

Thanks! I was just folling with an old camera.

Your Pita Pintas... did you develop that breed? I've never heard of it before, but those hens are beautiful!

They are from @Meg2000000 She is in the East Bay.

They are becoming my favorite breed.
