Ron, I think I read you recently started lights for your chickens? After you did how long until they started laying?
They start laying again after 7 days or so and continue to increase for a couple of weeks and then level out. I add light in the evening so that they get 12 to 14 hours.

Light is increasing now so the light can be adjusted down a bit.

They just started laying and the eggs are a bit small still. I should be able to hatch some in a couple of weeks.

My boy is doing his duty but my pullets are still a few weeks away from laying. They scream when he grabs them and run to get away. I do have some Pita Pinta/splash Langshan cross eggs in my incubator. I hope that a few of them hatch. It will be interesting to see what a cross of my 2 favorite chicken breeds looks like!

My favorite chicken is missing x24 hours. I expect the worst. Why do i get so attached? One barred rock girl that I loved. I am moving to a not so nice house just because they allow chickens. Why should I care? Thank you that BYC allows us to say how sad we are when we loose our friends.
So sorry that your girl is missing. I lost the very first chicken we had right before Thanksgiving. She was a barred rock, too. They have such personality! Last year at the Stockton show, there was a breeder who was selling barred rock chicks. If they are there again this year, I am thinking about picking up a few replacements.

Adorable chicks! So sorry that you have been having major predator problems. I hope that you catch them soon!
