On the trip to Redding I told the EEs that they were going to a new home and that they were very lucky. What a day. We had to put my dog to sleep. He would have been 9 on my birthday. Lymphoma took him down.He was a sweet rottweiler. The house and routine is so off from that one pet alone- the whole family feels the 'offness'. They become our family you know?
We did get the EEs from Ron today though. That was cool! (and thanks for the eggs Ron!) Everyone is already in love with the EE. Everyone remarked how much they looked like birds not 'chickens' almost hawk like. They are sweet birds. Very skittish at first. We brought them inside for the night- no place to really put them for the quarantine part. Well they are in a huge kennel but the goslings are taking up the covered back porch right now and during the day that porch get well over 120 degrees inside- not a good place for birds during the day. (geese get walked outside into their yard during the day)
I think after 2 days in the kennel in the house- we will let them hang out with the geese during the day for the rest of the quarantine. The geese don't mind ducks or chickens.
A fun story though. Cheered me up! Tonight I let the EEs out of their kennel and run around the livingroom...fed them treats. They immediately stopped being skittish of me. Walking around me, near me...(I named them Luna and Solara) the one we call Luna (the all over brownish one) kept trying to jump on me. I was like what the...?? Then I realized she wanted to perch on my arm so I stuck it out. Hopped right on it. What??? Did you teach her that Ron? It was so cute! Then she hopped down, walked around a bit, I pet her some more and then she kept staring at my head. ???? Then I realized she now wanted to jump on my head??? We were all laughing because she would crouch real low and then finally she hopped up on my shoulder and stayed there. FUNniest thing ever! I will have my son text me the pic he got. It will be a crappy pic- bad lighting and no flash. Friendly little gals!

my daughter set herself up to watch some chicken tv. she cracks me up.
I was going to tell you that they were a bit flighty but settled down once you picked them up. I really haven't worked with them that much, but they are had raised and do like people.
The EEs have tight feathers, so they will have a leaner look. Their muffs will get bigger and their colors will change a bit too. I am so happy that I will get to see what they look like when the become hens instead of pullets
The final total is:Happy birthday, Cooper!!! Sorry for the delay. I just got caught up.![]()
Deb what does the BB mean after all the bird names? I am so happy for you- congrats!!
Ron- chick update?? How cool! Did I read that no penes had hatched?
Excuse my typos. Sent from my iPhone.
10 EO Marraduna Basque
6 Pita Pintas.
I am leaving the Pennes in for another couple of days. You never know.
2 of the Basque are special needs chicks. One may have strained too much trying to hatch from the wrong end. The other one is still mostly on it's back, but was trying to get to the food and water. Probably would have drowned itself. Both are in a plastic container and getting vitamin electrolyte water. Megan is going to get them today and will get to be their nurse.
They made it one day, so there is hope.
