Can we call the one who inseminates the hens the "HENSEMENATOR" ?!?!

LOVE it!!

They hatch just like chickens--Pekin based ducks take longer though and the take three days from pip to hatch...Quite nerve wracking.....
What do you think of that humidity Ron? I'm trying to be even but within the ranges i got from Brinsea. But I've heard dry hatches do better, so maybe it's not all that touchy.

I would prefer not to have that nick name lol

Just don't do any videos. I can't even watch the one in the link. My husband doesn't understand why i'm on here so much as it is. If he sees me watching that he just won't get it. How do you explain "chicken porn". i'd be banned from all chicken sites

Hi Everyone!! Long time no chat! I have been watching and lurking and actually responding to many posts......verbally. I suppose that doesn't work too well though.

My phone is not cooperating so it keeps losing my spot of where I left off on the posts and it is really a pain in the butt. It keeps taking me all the way back to post 1.

Anyway I have a question for the chicken experts out here....... I have noticed a strange spot of blood on one of my white egg layers for about the last 5-6 eggs. Tonight I decided to check butts on the roost and this is what I found.

Might be too graphic for some so I am trying to use this feature....

What you are seeing in this picture is to top of Spikes butt and a red mass. I am not certain what a prolapsed vent looks like, but it seems like her vent is above the mass.....? Seems to be a bit o' poo on here too....sorry about that.

Very hard to get a picture one handed. I hope this one is clear enough for some ideas. I have since washed it and sprayed it with Vetericyin (sp?) and she is in a dark box to hopefully restrict egg laying.

I am just now thinking that I should have checked the others but the red blood has only been on one egg and not lot of it either. Sort of like it rubbed past this mass on it's way out.

Anyway I am going to go back and read some other posts now. Is Jason's new knickname the HENSEMINATOR???? I missed the beginning of that but darn if that isn't an awful nickname ! Funny but awful.

That is treated with Monistat 3 day. It Smells too right?

It is not really a prolapse it is Vent Gleet. It is a Fungal infection which is why the Monistat works. Cut each suppository up into thirds and get her to eat one a day at least. If possible give her one in the morning and one in the evening. If not, one each evening works.

Take her into the house and wash her vent and bottom in the tub. Gently dry and use the cream that comes with the kit. You should only have to do that a couple of times.

Vent gleet is often associated with sour crop. How is her crop?

"FINE SILKIE SPERM FOR SALE" hahaha @chiqita
first LOL....imagine a non chicken person reading this

I wasn't really tempted by any particular breed but am a sucker for Splashes. I have 3 in my layer pen 2 true Ameraucanas & 1 Marans. I would like more but sold the breeders I got those from. I ended up buying some Brown Leghorns from Paso Robles just to have a few white eggs.
I have 1 splash pullet but mostly she looks white

She has maybe five smal dark smudges but she is a crack up and I have hope that when she goes through her first big molt she will bring on the color. regardless....I am hoping to hatch some of laura's Isbar eggs this spring or summer to feed my need

So Ron is recieving illect sperm in the mail?? are we paying for it in bitcoins? ( Ok, for those of you who are into the nefarious dark web, I'm imagining selling verboten sperm on silk road now! we could make our own marketplace black farm! Silkie road!)

Chrissy should have splash marans around! I will post some pictures of the silkie I cant tell if its silver partridge or splash for you!
HEY! he is a gorgous boy! But wont mate, its all going to waste! Moppet needs some help from his less metrosexual bretherin.
OMG! second LOL moment of the evening...we are all 12 year old boys at heart!!!

i've got two beautiful splash isbar pullets 2/3-grown now, and hoping to hatch some more eggs this weekend... they are such elegant birds! once the older two reach POL, i'll have eggs from them x my blue isbar boy -- probably around April or so?
Ahhhhh this is the sort of information that makes me so so happy...see you in a few months Laura,,,I look forward to meeting you.

Splash Isbars have the most beautiful markings. I love mine.
I love yours too. We have similar chicken taste. Taste like chickens???

and they are already convinced it is time to go to the funny farm anyway...night before last DH said " Do what you want but just so you know I don't think we need any more chickens." He doesn't know about the onset of my recent bantam fixation

Hmmm. I didn't check her crop but she was scarfing the food I gave her. I will check it in the morning. The only smell I noticed was a sweetish smell. Almost like infection not the awful smell everyone mentions. I will still try the Monistat though because everything was wet and drippy looking. She was trying to clean up and an oh so helpful flock mate decided to peck at the red lump. So she will be inside for a few days. To be honest I didn't sniff her butt. Just couldn't bring myself to go there. My gag reflex has been sensitive lately!

HI! I have been talking to you and commenting on everyones posts. Just like I said ........verbally. So not helpful I know! My daughter asks me, "mommy what are you laughing at?" I just tell her it is a funny comment on my chicken page. Then she wanders away. At 7 she has learned that chicken people are "special" and laugh at things not always funny to everyone else.

You aren't a numb nuts you are a chicken nut. There IS a difference. I am going to take Ron's advice and see what happens. Funny that I have read all about vent gleet but it didn't occur to me because of the big red spot. I am a numb nut too!
