Ok I have some more incubator questions
smile.png
is there a certain brand of backup hygrometer and temperature gauge that you recommend? What about a candler? I'm going to order from Incubator Warehouse, I've decided I don't want to hatch quail.
Incubator warehouse has some nice ones. I would use one of their combo units but still purchase a Brinsea Spot check. The Brinsea High intensity candler is very nice too. It is really good for Dark eggs.

You do need to check them for accuracy though. It does not take too much accuracy to cause hatch problems.

Ohhhh...yes, you are!

The Marans eggs are very shiny!

Beautiful.

Beautiful!!! I need to add some of that Marans color to my egg basket. I have one OE hen who lays a dark brown egg but she is still on winter strike!
Thank you! I am anxious to see what the pullet I posted before lays. She came from one of these dark eggs. I'm hoping the rooster adds to the color egg dept. They've been laying since Sept, and I have a few girls that are giving me nice dark eggs that I plan on hatching more of. It's nice that my darkest layers seem to have the nicest qualities too, so i'm happy with it.

Excuse the background these girls are in the q cage and pulled the linoleum down. They have fresh dried leaves to play in and they are very brown.

I am COMPLETELY jealous of your eggs! And like any good addict, I'm going to solve that by contacting my new supplier...Karen. Karen, Now I need some Ameracauna pullets to go with the Leghorn pullet and a Maran to balance it all out. Chicken Math, don't fail me now...I'm going to inform (not ask) my husband.

@WendyJeepchick - oh if I didn't need my husband to build my coops!! I would be doing much more informing. My approach is "surprise! we have more chickens. now I need a pen REALLY fast!!" it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

I did tell him I want to learn how to build coops. He honestly thinks I'm just trying to be crafty. I don't tell him it's because I have all of these plans, and I'm worried he won't build them fast enough.

question about olive eggers: does the first cross always produce an olive laying generation?

I will have a dozen Crele and a Dozen Black Penedesenca eggs by tomorrow night if anyones interested.
I will be setting my Empordanesa and Project Olive Eggers along with a few of my 2nd line of crele this weekend
but will still have extras they will all be from this week.
