California - Northern

Welcome to the Northern CA thread!

I was very sad when the Wheel of Time series looked like it was not going to be finished.

Branden Sanderson did a great job finishing it though!

Edited to add: Do you get Geeky comments like this a lot?

Thank you! I actually haven't read any of his books. I have been asked a lot if I was the author by people who aren't familiar with him lol.

Today we found my daughters Bantam Leghorn cock dead. Last night, he looked like the picture above and we moved him inside. We believe it was from red mites. He has always been sensitive to mites, if that's possible. He would get them even when yhe others didn't and they were very hard to erradicate on him. We treated him for mites 6 days ago: dusted him with Sevin, treated with Revolution, changed his bedding and sprayed his coup with Sevin. He was holding his own this week and was eating and drinking. We were giving him Nutradrench. Yesterday, I retreated him as the second round for newly hatched mites. His poop was normal, but yesterday I purchased Ivermectin to give him as a last ditch effort.

Today, even though none of my other birds have mites, I will dust them all again.

We are pretty sad about the whole thing and all the effort we put out to save Hercules. If anyone has any words of wisdom, we would love to hear them. Could we have done a better job? Are some chickens more susceptible?
I am sorry for your loss!

Here in CA we have a free Necropsy service. Double bag him and get him into the fridge. Do not freeze.

Ahh im anxious my eggs go into lock down tomorrow and im worried they wont hatch. the EE hasnt shown much devolpment theres just like black taking up half the space of the egg and the RIR and orpinton cross egg was a double yolk but now only has one so im kinda worried Dx someone give me some positive advice that both of them are still living.
i hopr im just like over thinking this.
i havent seen any movement but i also dont know what to look for
All you can do is set them up for hatching and wait. It is stressful.

Dark inside of the eggs now is good.

I hope they hatch!

I would love to hatch some Serama's!

I totally understand! I finally got my hands on some! We'll see how it goes! There is people on here who have some. I'm JUST starting my Serama project. I have a Serama Cock Bird and a Serama hen but they've only been together for a few weeks. I'm near Placerville. I'm hoping for at least a few of the 5 developing eggs to hatch!

I never saw any movement in mine. I'm brand new at hatching so that could be why! When I set them I thought more of the egg should be dark but they were fine and hatched well. Like Ron said you set them up for hatch and stay hopeful! You've done what you can!

@ronott1 can temp spikes mess them up? Something caused our bator to spike up to like 102-103 the other day and im afraid it couldve killed them.
i really hope it didnt >·< gahh im going to go crazy before they even pip lol
