Is it worth it to follow through with that service? How much does it cost?

It is free for flocks under 1000.

Yes, it is worth it to make sure you know what killed him. It gives you peace of mind and helps to figure out if you need to do something different with the flock.

I would love to hatch some Serama's!

Nutmeg is fertile and laying but has been hiding her eggs. The new hen is being introduced to snickerdaddy today so I should have eggs soonish.

No, but my Mom says I have to read it. I try to do what Mom says so I will likely start it soon.

I should meet your mum.

Today we found my daughters Bantam Leghorn cock dead. Last night, he looked like the picture above and we moved him inside. We believe it was from red mites. He has always been sensitive to mites, if that's possible. He would get them even when yhe others didn't and they were very hard to erradicate on him. We treated him for mites 6 days ago: dusted him with Sevin, treated with Revolution, changed his bedding and sprayed his coup with Sevin. He was holding his own this week and was eating and drinking. We were giving him Nutradrench. Yesterday, I retreated him as the second round for newly hatched mites. His poop was normal, but yesterday I purchased Ivermectin to give him as a last ditch effort.

Today, even though none of my other birds have mites, I will dust them all again.

We are pretty sad about the whole thing and all the effort we put out to save Hercules. If anyone has any words of wisdom, we would love to hear them. Could we have done a better job? Are some chickens more susceptible?

I do not know the revolution works on chickens. Unless it was the same ingredint as frontline. Not all flea products work.

I spray my coops and chickens monthly if they are suseptable to mites since it can get bad fast without you noticeing. Sorry for your loss I would send him in. :(
Thank you! I actually haven't read any of his books. I have been asked a lot if I was the author by people who aren't familiar with him lol.

Haha must have been an interesting last 20 years to have that name! Especially if you use fancy canes.

I will definitely get some Dienomite strips, when I find them. This whole thing is not just sad....it's disgusting. I want to burn my clothes.

I just checked all three of my coops and all 25 chickens. No mites. Luckily Hercules was in His own coop.

I have always waited 3 weeks before changing roosters but at the Stockton show I was talking to a well known breeder that says one week will do except for a special breed that started with an F (I can't remember, because I don't have them...Famoiyas or something like that). If a BCM pullet/hen gets loose I ban her to the layer  pen for at least 3 weeks,. actually a lot longer because I don't get around to catching her to move her back.....LOL. I have one in the layer pen still from last season that is laying a really nice egg. I need to get her back to Big Boy but for now she is being covered by one of his sons. I never seem to get around to all I have in my mind to do.......LOL

Ohh I hear you sister!!
